Chapter 7 - The Unbreakable Crown

Months passed, and the Moretti estate became a true home once again.
The fear that once defined the mafia boss’s name was replaced by a quiet, unshakable respect. Rival families learned quickly that touching a single hair on a Moretti meant a death sentence, but they also learned that Luca Moretti was no longer a tyrant consumed by blind vengeance. He was a protector. He was a father.
One warm afternoon, the estate gardens were bathed in golden sunlight. Thousands of blooming white roses lined the pathways where Sophia loved to play hide-and-seek with her enormous black dog.
Hannah sat on a wrought-iron bench beneath a large oak tree, reading a brightly colored storybook, while Sophia curled up in her lap, listening intently to every word with wide, bright eyes.
Luca walked across the manicured lawn, carrying two glasses of fresh lemonade. As he approached them, he paused for just a second, taking in the breathtaking scene. For three years, his life had been a cold, hollow warzone. Now, looking at Hannah and his daughter laughing together under the sunlight, he realized he had won the only war that truly mattered.
He crouched down beside the bench, handing a glass of lemonade to Hannah.
“Storytime interruption,” Luca teased gently, a warm smirk playing across his lips.
Sophie immediately sat up, grabbing his arm. “Daddy! Hannah was reading about a brave knight who saved the princess from the dragon!”
“Is that right?” Luca chuckled, his deep, resonant voice rich with amusement. He looked up at Hannah, his gray eyes softening completely. “I think our knight deserves a reward.”
Hannah blushed, taking a sip of the lemonade. “Just watching her run across the grass is reward enough, Luca.”
“Not for me,” Luca said quietly. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small, heavy velvet box.
Hannah froze. Sophia gasped, her eyes going wide with excitement. “Is it a ring?! Is it a wedding present?!”
Luca couldn't help but laugh out loud. He opened the box, revealing a stunning, flawless vintage diamond ring that caught the golden afternoon light.
“Hannah Carter,” Luca said, his voice dropping into a thick, emotional whisper as he knelt on one knee in the grass before her. “You walked into my life carrying a tray of juice, and you handed me back my entire world. You kept my daughter safe when the whole world was burning. Will you stay in this house—not just as her guardian, but as my wife, and my queen?”
Tears welled up in Hannah’s expressive eyes. The waitress who had spent years hiding in the shadows, fighting in silence, was finally being handed the crown she so deeply deserved.
