Chapter 45 - The Lion Awakens

The atmosphere inside the grand library of the Moretti estate was thick enough to suffocate on. The fireplace roared with a violent blaze, but it offered no warmth to the two people standing before it.
Luca Moretti stood perfectly still, holding his encrypted phone. He had just received the report from the Boston security team. Sophia was safe, secured in a heavily fortified underground safehouse with a dozen additional contractors en route. The Aegis operative had been identified, and the plot was entirely exposed.
When Luca finally lowered the phone, the transformation was complete. The civilized billionaire, the philanthropist, and the peaceful family man were entirely gone. Standing in the library was the absolute, unchained monster that had once drowned the Chicago underworld in blood. His gray eyes were voids of terrifying, frozen death.
"They tried to put her in a van," Luca whispered. The softness of his voice was infinitely more dangerous than a scream. "They tried to sedate my daughter like an animal."
Hannah stood by the mahogany desk. She did not ask him to calm down. She did not beg for peace. She had spent years helping him build a life in the light, but she was a mother first. The image of those mercenaries reaching for her beautiful, brilliant daughter erased every shred of her mercy.
Her expressive brown eyes hardened into brilliant, unbreakable steel. She walked over to her husband, her face a mask of absolute, unforgiving authority.
"Blackwood thought he could use her to force a surrender," Hannah said, her voice ringing with the cold clarity of a Queen declaring war. "He thought because we built hospitals, we had forgotten how to destroy. He crossed the line, Luca. Erase him."
Luca looked at his wife, awe and profound devotion mingling with his rage. He reached out, his massive hand gently cupping her face. The permission in her eyes was the only key he needed to unlock the gates of hell.
"Elias," Luca commanded, his voice booming with lethal authority as the head of security stepped into the library. "Recall the tactical teams. Ground the private fleet. I want every single piece of intelligence we have on the Aegis Group’s Chicago headquarters. I want building schematics, guard rotations, and structural weaknesses."
"It's already done, Boss," Elias replied, his own face grim with a dark, violent satisfaction. "They operate out of a fortified compound in the industrial sector. Heavy military-grade security. It's a fortress."

"There is no fortress on this earth that can keep me from the man who targeted my child," Luca snarled, pulling a heavy, ceramic ballistic plate from a hidden compartment behind the bookshelf. "Load the heavy armor. Tonight, the Aegis Group ceases to exist."
