Chapter 23 - The Queen's Instinct

The atmosphere in the luxurious library of the Moretti estate grew suffocatingly tense as night fell. The fireplace still crackled with warm, amber flames, but the chill of the threat had seeped into every corner. Hannah stood with her arms crossed by the window, her unwavering gaze staring out into the pitch-black night. She was no longer the panicked, fragile woman kneeling on the marble floor of that gala. The memory of the night she took down an Obsidian mercenary with a wrench and an oxygen tank in a dark hospital room had forged her into a true warrior. Luca approached from behind, wrapping his massive, heavily tattooed arms securely around his wife's waist, resting his chin gently on her soft blonde-brown hair. "I will tear apart anyone who dares to threaten you and the girls," Luca growled, his deep voice carrying the brutal, unyielding wrath of a true mafia boss. Hannah turned around, pressing her soft hands against her husband's rugged face. She knew this new enemy was trying to provoke Luca's blinding rage, baiting him into a bloody, reckless trap. "We cannot fight this with impulse, Luca," Hannah whispered, her sharp eyes flashing with brilliant intelligence. "Whoever sent this syringe wants you to lose control. He wants to drag you back into the darkness we fought so hard to leave. This time, we will use our legitimate network to choke him out."
