Chapter 47 - The Siege on Aegis

The rain poured relentlessly over the industrial sector of Chicago, turning the cracked pavement into slick, dark mirrors reflecting the harsh amber streetlights. The Aegis Group’s regional headquarters was a brutalist concrete compound surrounded by electrified chain-link fences and fortified guard towers. It was designed to withstand a siege by an army.
It was not designed to withstand Luca Moretti.
At 4:00 AM, the perimeter power grid for a five-block radius was completely severed by Elias’s tech team. The compound was plunged into darkness, relying on emergency backup generators that only partially illuminated the massive courtyard.
Before the Aegis guards could coordinate a response, the heavy reinforced steel gates at the front of the compound were violently breached. A heavily armored, customized transport truck—resembling a battering ram on wheels—smashed through the gates, tearing them off their hinges with a deafening crash of grinding metal.
Fifty elite Moretti syndicate enforcers, dressed in full black tactical gear and wearing night-vision optics, poured into the courtyard like a tidal wave of lethal shadows.
The Aegis mercenaries, accustomed to fighting in overseas warzones, were entirely unprepared for the sheer, ferocious coordination of the Moretti assault. The courtyard erupted into a blinding, deafening firefight. Tracer rounds lit up the rainy night sky, but the Moretti forces moved with terrifying, ruthless efficiency, suppressing the guard towers with heavy sniper fire and advancing rapidly toward the main building.
Luca Moretti did not stay behind cover.
He moved through the chaos like an invincible titan, his suppressed assault rifle raised, dropping any mercenary foolish enough to cross his path. He wore heavy ballistic armor over his black clothing, his face a terrifying mask of absolute, unyielding wrath. He was a father coming for the monsters who had touched his child, and nothing in the universe was going to stop him.
"Breach the main doors!" Elias roared over the comms, tossing a flashbang grenade into the fortified lobby.
The explosive flash blinded the defending Aegis operatives, allowing Luca to kick open the shattered glass doors and storm the interior. The fight moved into the concrete corridors of the facility. The air was thick with smoke, the smell of cordite, and the screams of panicked mercenaries realizing they were being systematically eradicated.
Luca’s eyes were locked on the heavy steel double doors at the end of the central hallway—the executive bunker where Director Blackwood had retreated.
Two massive Aegis guards stepped out from an alcove, leveling automatic shotguns at Luca.
Luca didn't flinch. He fired two precise, lethal bursts, dropping both men instantly before their fingers could even twitch on the triggers. He stepped over their bodies, his heavy boots leaving bloody footprints on the linoleum, and stopped in front of the executive doors.
