Chapter 49 - The Reunion

The morning sun broke through the heavy rain clouds, casting a brilliant, golden light across the city of Boston. Inside the highly secure, heavily guarded underground safehouse, Sophia sat on the edge of a cot, a wool blanket wrapped tightly around her shoulders. She was physically exhausted, the adrenaline of the ambush having long since faded, leaving behind a profound, settling calm.

She hadn't panicked. She hadn't cried. She had fought back, surviving the nightmare by relying on the fierce, unbreakable spirit her parents had instilled in her.

The heavy steel door of the safehouse groaned open.

Sophia looked up. Standing in the doorway was her father.

Luca was covered in concrete dust, his black tactical gear scuffed, and his face exhausted. But the moment his gray eyes locked onto his daughter, the terrifying monster who had leveled an empire vanished completely. He was just a father, overwhelmed with a desperate, crushing relief.

"Dad!" Sophia cried, throwing the blanket off and sprinting across the room.

Luca caught her, wrapping his massive arms around her and lifting her off the ground, burying his face in her shoulder. He held her with a terrifying strength, as if trying to shield her from the entire universe. A ragged, choking sob tore from his chest—the first tear he had shed since the ordeal began.

"I've got you," Luca whispered fiercely into her hair. "I've got you, my beautiful girl. You're safe. It's over."

Sophia hugged him back just as tightly, burying her face against his chest, inhaling the familiar scent of gunpowder, rain, and absolute safety. "I knew you would come. I wasn't afraid, Dad. I did exactly what you taught me."

Luca set her down gently, cupping her face in his large, calloused hands. He looked at her with a profound, staggering awe. She wasn't just a child to be protected anymore. She was a warrior in her own right, a true heir to the formidable legacy of the Moretti family.

"You are stronger than I ever was, Sophia," Luca said, his voice thick with emotion. "You are the bravest person I know."

Elias stepped into the room, offering a respectful nod to Sophia, a rare, genuine smile touching his stoic features. "The extraction chopper is ready, Boss. The Queen is waiting for us in Chicago."

Sophia smiled, linking her arm tightly through her father's. The illusion of a normal, quiet college life was gone, but she didn't care. She finally understood the true weight of her family's name, and she embraced it completely. They walked out of the safehouse together, stepping into the morning light, ready to go home.
