Chapter 35 - The Lion's Wrath

The atmosphere inside the Moretti estate was thick enough to choke on. The grand living room, usually filled with sunlight and laughter, felt like the interior of a pressurized military bunker.

Luca Moretti stood perfectly still by the massive stone fireplace. He wasn't yelling. He wasn't throwing furniture or issuing frantic orders. The silence radiating from him was far more terrifying than any outburst. It was the cold, calculated silence of a predator that had finally decided to completely unchain the beast inside.

Hannah sat on the velvet sofa, holding Sophia tightly against her side. The ten-year-old was physically unharmed, but the shock of the violent ambush had finally set in, and she was wrapped in a cashmere blanket, her head resting against her mother’s chest. Hannah stroked her daughter's hair with trembling fingers, her maternal rage burning just as fiercely as Luca’s.

Elias stood at attention near the doorway, his suit dusted with concrete debris, a fresh bandage wrapped tightly around a graze on his forearm.

"The two mercenaries we captured at the school are in federal custody," Elias reported, his voice low and clinical. "The police think it was a targeted ransom attempt by an unknown faction. They don't know it was the Volkovs."

Luca slowly turned around. His gray eyes were entirely devoid of humanity. The man who had spent years building medical clinics and hosting charity galas had retreated to the darkest corners of his mind, leaving only the undisputed King of the Underworld in his place.

"They went after my daughter," Luca whispered. The softness of his voice made Elias’s blood run cold. "In broad daylight. In front of her school."

Hannah looked up from Sophia. She knew the vow Luca had made to her on their wedding day. He had promised to leave the violence in the past, to never bring the blood and the darkness back into their home. But Hannah was a mother first. The image of those heavily armed men reaching for her little girl erased every pacifist instinct she possessed.

"Luca," Hannah said softly, her voice steady and resolute.

Luca’s intense gaze shifted to his pregnant wife, expecting her to ask him to stand down, to let the police handle it, to maintain their hard-won legitimate image.

Instead, Hannah’s eyes hardened into a brilliant, terrifying steel. "End them," she whispered, her voice carrying the absolute, uncompromising authority of a Queen defending her bloodline. "I don't care about the image. I don't care about the press. You promised me you would protect this family. Keep your promise."

A slow, chilling smile touched the corners of Luca’s lips. The permission from his wife was the only key he needed to unlock the gates of hell.

"Elias," Luca commanded, his voice returning to its full, booming, authoritative resonance. "Pull every single favor, every single bribe, and every single piece of leverage we have over the shipping unions, the corrupt beat cops, and the underground informants. I want Nikolai Volkov’s location within the hour. And tell the security teams to load the heavy armor. Tonight, we remind this city exactly whose ground they are walking on."

"Yes, Boss," Elias replied, a dark satisfaction gleaming in his eyes.

Luca walked over to the sofa, kneeling down before his wife and daughter. He gently kissed Sophia’s forehead, then pressed his hand against Hannah’s cheek.

"Lock the estate down," Luca told Hannah softly, the monster completely vanishing when he looked at her. "I will be home before dawn."

Hannah covered his hand with hers, her eyes fierce. "Bring the storm, Luca."
