Chapter 46 - The Alpine Directive

The seaplane carried them across the ocean, disappearing into the chaotic web of international airspace. Weeks later, the freezing, biting wind of the Swiss Alps replaced the humid heat of the jungle. Marcus and Claire had not gone into hiding. They had tracked the source of The Architect's funding through the remnants of Vance's decrypted ledgers. The blood trail led directly to Lord Julian Sterling and The Sovereign Trust. Sterling was hosting a highly exclusive, heavily fortified billionaire's gala at a glass-and-steel mansion perched on the edge of a jagged alpine cliff. It was an impenetrable fortress, guarded by The Architect’s surviving elite.
Marcus stood in the shadows of a snow-covered pine ridge overlooking the glowing mansion, his steel-blue eyes locked on the target through a spotting scope. He wore a pristine white winter tactical suit, blending perfectly with the blizzard. Beside him stood Claire. But she wasn't wearing tactical gear. She was wearing a breathtaking, backless crimson evening gown, paired with diamond earrings and flawless makeup. It was a terrifying echo of the Easter ball, but this time, the dress was not a cage; it was the ultimate camouflage. "The retinal scrambler is active in your contacts," Marcus whispered over their secure comms, adjusting his rifle. "You have exactly ten minutes to infiltrate the main server room and plant the explosive charges. If The Architect recognizes you, the mission is over."
Claire slipped a silenced, micro-compact pistol into a hidden thigh holster beneath the slit of her gown. She looked at her father, the icy wind whipping her short chestnut hair. "He won't recognize me," Claire replied, her voice cold and absolute. "Because I belong in that room. I speak their language. I know their arrogance." She turned and walked alone into the blinding blizzard, descending toward the main gates of the glass mansion. She was the Trojan Horse, a ghost from high society returning to shatter the throne of the elite.
