Chapter 11 - The Predator Unleashed Into The Dark

The crushing reality of the empty space behind the shattered banquet table struck Marcus Reed with the kinetic force of a hollow-point bullet. For a singular, agonizing microsecond, the impenetrable armor of the veteran federal commander fractured, revealing the raw, unadulterated terror of a father who had just lost his only child. But the panic was instantly suffocated by decades of black-ops conditioning. The grief calcified into a cold, terrifying rage. Marcus spun around, his steel-blue eyes locking onto the tactical operator standing in the ruined doorway.
"Where is the breach?" Marcus's voice was no longer a human sound; it was a mechanical, lethal vibration that commanded immediate submission. He didn't ask for a situation report. He didn't ask for casualties. The entire universe had just violently collapsed into a single, blood-soaked objective.
"Service elevator shaft, north wing," the operator replied instantly, his synthesized voice tight with adrenaline. "They bypassed the primary grid. Heat signatures indicate two hostiles moving rapidly through the subterranean drainage network. They are heading toward the old Prohibition smuggling docks beneath the property."
Vivienne Beaumont let out a manic, triumphant cackle from the cream marble floor. Her emerald dress was soaked in her son's blood and freezing water, but her sharp blue eyes danced with venomous delight. "They have her!" the matriarch screamed, pointing a trembling, manicured finger at Marcus. "The cartel doesn't care about your National Command Authority! They will peel her skin off piece by piece until you hand over those ledgers!"
Marcus didn't even blink. He crossed the distance between himself and the laughing matriarch in two massive strides. He didn't speak. He simply drew his heavy tactical boot back and kicked Vivienne squarely in the chest. The sickening crunch of ribs echoed through the silent ballroom as the billionaire matriarch flew backward, sliding across the wet marble before collapsing in a heap of breathless agony. Preston shrieked, curling tighter into a pathetic ball.
"Secure this room," Marcus ordered the strike team, his eyes fixed on the dark hallway beyond the shattered doors. "Nobody leaves. Nobody makes a call. If Sheriff Pike so much as twitches, put a bullet in his kneecap."

"Commander, we have a secondary tactical squad en route to the dock's exterior," the operator warned, grabbing Marcus's shoulder. "Wait for the breach. You can't go down into those tunnels alone. It's a labyrinth."
Marcus violently shrugged off the operator's hand. He reached into the pocket of his faded olive field jacket, feeling the cold titanium of the encrypted drive. He pulled a spare magazine from his belt, slapped it into his matte-black sidearm, and racked the slide with a definitive, ringing clack. "They aren't negotiating with the federal government," Marcus whispered into the darkness. "They are negotiating with me. And I am going to slaughter them."
