Chapter 25 - An Alliance Of Exiles

El Sombra’s heavily armored black SUV tore through the stormy night, its heavy tires aggressively biting the slick asphalt of a deserted highway. Inside the cabin, the tension was absolute. Marcus sat in the passenger seat, slapping a fresh magazine into an acquired assault rifle, his cold eyes scanning the side mirrors. In the backseat, Claire focused on controlling her breathing. The torn lavender dress was gone, replaced by an oversized black tactical jacket El Sombra had thrown at her. A fragile, lethal alliance had been forged between a federal commander, a high-society survivor, and the world’s most wanted assassin.

"Why is the cartel putting a bounty on my daughter?" Marcus broke the silence, his tone vibrating with violent intent.

El Sombra didn't take his eyes off the road, a cigarette burning faintly at the corner of his scarred mouth. "Because Preston Beaumont is still breathing," the assassin smirked. "His mother's hit failed. The coward survived a shiv in the yard and demanded a direct line to Director Vance. He promised to hand over your only vulnerability—the girl—in exchange for a new identity. Preston knows how she thinks. He knows her trauma. He is turning your daughter into the ultimate bait to drag you out of the shadows."

The revelation struck Claire like a physical blow. Her husband, the arrogant monster who had dragged her across the cream marble ballroom, was still actively weaponizing her life to save his own pathetic skin. His cowardice had evolved into a lethal threat.

But Claire's heart no longer beat with terror; it hammered with the cold rhythm of absolute vengeance. She leaned forward, gripping her father’s broad shoulder.

"Dad. I am done running," Claire stated, her hazel eyes burning with an unquenchable fire. "I will not let Preston or anyone else use me as your weakness. Teach me how to use the rifle. Teach me how to break them. We aren't going to hide and wait for them to find us. We are bringing the war directly to their front door."

Marcus looked back at his daughter. In her fierce, uncompromising stare, he saw both his own reflection and the spirit of his murdered wife. A terrifying pride swelled in his chest. He gave her a slow, definitive nod. The exiles were no longer prey. They were about to become the most ruthless hunters on earth.
