Chapter 3 - The Black Code Initiates A Complete Total Lockdown

The deafening crash of the banquet table sent a shockwave of pure panic through the elite crowd. Women in couture gowns shrieked, clutching their diamond necklaces, while wealthy men stumbled backward, desperate to put distance between themselves and the violence. The facade of high-society elegance had been brutally shattered, replaced by the raw, undeniable reality of a physical confrontation.
Preston lay groaning among the broken crystal and crushed white-and-gold flowers, his tailored navy linen suit soaked in expensive champagne and his own blood. He touched his split lip, his pale-blue eyes wide with a mixture of shock and sudden, paralyzing fear. He had never been struck in his entire privileged life.
Marcus stood tall, shielding Claire behind his broad, powerful shoulders. He didn't even look at his bloody knuckles. His breathing was slow, controlled, and deeply terrifying. He reached inside the breast pocket of his faded olive field jacket.
"Sheriff Pike!" Vivienne screamed, her immaculate features twisted into a mask of pure, ugly rage. She pointed a trembling finger toward Marcus. "Arrest this man! He just assaulted my son! Shoot him if you have to!"
Sheriff Raymond Pike finally pushed himself off the marble pillar. He tossed his champagne glass onto a nearby tray and unclipped the retention strap on his holster. He approached confidently, his heavy build swaggering with the arrogant assumption of local power. "Alright, Reed," Pike barked, his voice echoing loudly. "You just made the biggest mistake of your miserable life. Put your hands behind your head and get on the ground, now!"
Marcus ignored the corrupt sheriff entirely. He pulled his hand from his jacket, revealing a thick, matte-black authentication card. It didn't look like a standard keycard; it possessed a heavy, metallic weight and lacked any visible magnetic strip or standard chip.
He turned his back on Pike and walked deliberately toward the main Emergency Security Panel embedded in the cream marble wall.
"I said freeze, you son of a bitch!" Pike yelled, his hand gripping the handle of his sidearm.
Marcus didn't hesitate. He pressed the matte-black card firmly against the glowing glass interface of the security panel. The system beeped—a sharp, unusual dual-tone that none of the country club members had ever heard before.
Marcus leaned close to the microphone embedded in the panel. His voice was ice-cold, devoid of any panic.
"Black Code. Seal the building. Now."
For a split second, nothing happened. Pike let out a harsh bark of laughter. "You think you can play games with the club's security system? I'm the law in this county, Reed!"
Then, the world changed.
BANG!
Every single reinforced ballroom door SLAMS SHUT simultaneously. The sound was deafening, like a prison vault sealing shut.
CLICK. CLACK. THUD.
Heavy, industrial-grade deadbolts shot into the floor and ceiling. The mechanical groans of the locks engaging echoed ominously around the massive space. The gentle ambient lighting of the chandeliers abruptly cut out, plunging the room into brief darkness before a deep-red emergency light flooded the entire ballroom. The crimson glow painted the terrified faces of the guests, transforming the elegant space into an inescapable bunker.
"What the hell is going on?" a wealthy guest screamed, rushing toward the main exit.
Sheriff Pike cursed loudly. He jogged toward the nearest double doors and grabbed the brass handles. He planted his heavy boots on the marble and yanked with all his might. The doors didn't even rattle. They were completely, immovably LOCKED.
"Open these doors, Reed!" Pike demanded, turning around, his face flushed with sudden, undeniable panic. His sweaty hands fumbled, and the champagne glass he hadn't realized he was still holding slipped from his fingers.
SHATTER.
The glass exploded against the marble, the sharp sound making several guests jump in terror.

Vivienne Beaumont went completely pale. The crimson light cast horrifying shadows across her sharp features, highlighting the sudden, deep wrinkles of fear. Her emerald dress looked black in the bloody lighting. She looked at her son, who was slowly pushing himself up from the wreckage of the table. Preston touched his bleeding lip again, his arrogant mouth suddenly completely silent.
They were trapped. The local law enforcement was locked in with them. And Marcus Reed was in absolute control.
