Chapter 42 - The Ghost of Julianne

Rose placed a heavy, black titanium drive onto the center of the conference table. The screen mounted on the wall flickered to life, bypassing the corporate intranet and projecting an encrypted archive directly into the room's high-security monitors.

"For twenty years," Rose declared, her voice ringing clear and authoritative through the chamber, "this board believed Julianne Sterling was an embezzler who burned her own manor to escape prosecution. You believed it because Eleanor Vance forged the wire transfers, and Walter Sterling signed off on the liquidation of her estate."

Walter backed toward the glass window, his chest heaving. "Those records were authenticated by independent auditors!"

"They were authenticated by ghosts," Rose countered. With a single tap on the terminal, the screen displayed a video file timestamped three days before the Sterling Manor inferno.

The image resolved to show Julianne Sterling, radiant and calm despite the exhaustion etched around her eyes. She sat at this exact same desk, holding an infant Rose in her arms.

*"If you are watching this,"* Julianne’s voice echoed across the decades, clear and haunting, *"then Eleanor has finally struck, and Arthur Vance has already failed to protect what we built together. To my daughter, Rose: know that you carry no shame. You are the sole legitimate heir to the Sterling estate, and by blood, you are the true holder of the Vance Trust Charter. Nathaniel Arthur Vance is not your brother, but the son of Arthur's first legal marriage to Victoria Sterling—my elder sister."*

A collective gasp rippled through the boardroom.

Nathaniel didn't flinch; he had already heard the confession the night before in the quiet sanctuary of their penthouse. Eleanor had twisted the truth: Nathaniel's true mother had not been Eleanor at all, but Victoria, Julianne’s sister, whom Eleanor had quietly murdered thirty years ago to usurp her place as the Vance matriarch.

Rose was not Nathaniel’s sibling. She was his cousin by marriage, the legal daughter of Julianne and a French diplomat whose records Eleanor had systematically erased. The horrifying specter of incest was nothing more than the final, desperate lie of a dying viper.

"Walter Sterling," Nathaniel said, nodding toward the federal marshals waiting at the door. "You are under arrest for treason, corporate fraud, and the attempted murder of Julianne Sterling. Take him out."

As Walter was dragged kicking and screaming from the boardroom, Rose stepped up to the head of the table, placing her hands on the polished wood.

"Now," Rose said to the terrified executives. "Let’s discuss the restructuring of Vance Global."
