Chapter 22 - The Lioness Awakes
By morning, the media had caught wind of the catastrophic collapse of the Thorne dynasty. Headlines blared across every financial channel and tabloid: *ARTHUR THORNE FALLS TO HIS DEATH IN SHOCKING SIEGE*; *VICTORIA THORNE INDICTED ON ATTEMPTED MURDER AND TREASON CHARGES*.
Yet, inside Vance Manor, the real storm was just beginning.
Eleanor Vance refused bed rest. By noon, she had summoned the Vance Global Board of Directors to the grand ballroom. She sat in an ornate mahogany chair at the head of the long conference table, dressed in charcoal silk, her pearls gleaming, radiating the terrifying authority of an awakened lioness.
Nathaniel stood at her right hand, imposing and sharp in an obsidian-black suit.
When the double doors opened, Rose stepped into the room.
She wore no maid's apron, no scuffed sneakers. She wore a tailored emerald-green gown that matched the fierce color of her eyes, her dark hair swept into an elegant chignon, her chin held high. Beside her, little Leo walked proudly in a miniature suit, holding his sister's hand without a trace of fear.
Murmurs rippled through the assembled executives—men and women who had spent decades bowing to Arthur Thorne’s subtle threats.
"Ladies and gentlemen of the board," Eleanor’s voice rang out, cutting through the whispers like a guillotine. "For twenty years, you operated under the delusion that the Sterling lineage was extinct. You allowed Thorne’s syndicate to siphon our capital and threaten my life."
Eleanor gestured to Rose.
"This is Rose Sterling. Legal heir to Julianne Sterling’s estate, owner of thirty-four percent of Vance-Sterling shares, and the woman who twice saved my life from the ledge of this very building."
The room erupted. One portly director, a longtime crony of Thorne named Henderson, stood up indignantly. "This is preposterous! A maid? You expect the international financial market to accept a street beggar as our primary stakeholder?"
Nathaniel leaned forward, his hands resting flat on the mahogany table, his gaze locking onto Henderson with predatory intensity.
"You have five seconds to retract that statement, Henderson," Nathaniel whispered, his voice smooth and deadly. "Or Marcus will personally escort you to the federal prosecutor's office, where we have already submitted the financial logs Arthur Thorne left behind in his offshore accounts. Shall we see how many shell companies bear your signature?"
Henderson’s face turned the color of curdled milk. He slowly lowered himself back into his seat, sweating through his collar.
Rose stepped forward, placing both hands on the table. She looked at every single powerful figure in the room, her voice clear, calm, and unshakable.
"I didn't ask for this bloodline," Rose said, commands echoing off the gilded ceiling. "And I don't care about your titles. But I know what it means to build something from dirt. If you work with us, you prosper. If you cross the Vance-Sterling name... I will personally ensure you lose every single cent you stole from my mother. Am I understood?"

Not a single soul dared breathe. One by one, the board members nodded in submission.
