Chapter 18 - Seraphine’s Letter to Milo
When Milo was nine, Seraphine wrote to him through therapist.
Adrian did not decide whether he read it.
Milo did.
Slowly.
With support.
Seraphine wrote:
I said you were not safe around Ava because I wanted other adults to believe a story that helped me.
You were gentle with her.
You protected her when I put both of you somewhere frightening.
You did not cause what happened.
Milo stopped.
“Why she do?”
His therapist asked:
“What do you think she says?”
He continued.
I was afraid about money, control, and losing the life I wanted. I used that fear to justify hurting you. That was wrong.
Milo looked at Adrian later.
“Sera say sorry.”
“Yes.”
“Do I forgive?”
“You decide.”
Milo thought.
“Not today.”
Adrian smiled.
“Okay.”
Two years later answer remained same.
