Chapter 10 - Claire’s Video
Sarah Whitmore found an old video attached to Claire’s estate file.
Claire had recorded messages for Milo before treatment became too exhausting.
Adrian had watched some.
Not this one.
Claire sat in their old library.
Thinner than Adrian remembered.
Still smiling.
“Milo, if you’re old enough to watch this, somebody probably thinks they know exactly what your life should look like.”
Adrian covered his mouth.
Claire continued:
“People will underestimate you. Other people will overprotect you. Both can feel like love. Neither should replace asking you what you want.”
Then she looked into camera as though speaking directly to Adrian.
“And to whoever is helping him—support is not control.”
Adrian cried.
The trust itself required a supported-decision framework before any adult guardianship request.
Seraphine had been trying to bypass Claire’s philosophy by manufacturing crisis.
Sarah said:
“She was more worried about paternalism than money.”
Adrian nodded.
