Chapter 1 - The Sicilian Insult

The exclusive, high-end Manhattan Italian restaurant was a sanctuary for the city's elite. Crystal chandeliers cast a warm, flickering candlelight across pristine white tablecloths and highly polished silverware. The atmosphere was sophisticated and quietly humming with wealthy patrons.
But at the center VIP table, the elegant ambiance was about to violently shatter.
Don Salvatore, the aging, feared patriarch of the Rossi crime syndicate, sat at the head of the table. With his stark white hair, sharp features, and a dark pinstripe suit, he radiated a fierce, formidable danger. He gripped a polished wooden cane with a heavy silver handle, his knuckles white with impatience.
Standing beside the table was Tessa. She was a twenty-six-year-old waitress with an elegant updo, wearing a classic black-and-white uniform and a crisp white apron. She was pouring water, her demeanor perfectly calm, fearless, and sharp.
Suddenly, Salvatore slammed his silver cane against the floor. He pointed it directly at Tessa, his face twisted in pure arrogance.
"Are you deaf as well as stupid?" Salvatore barked harshly, speaking in a thick, obscure, and heavily antiquated old Sicilian dialect. "Bring me real food!"
The loud outburst brought the crowded, luxurious dining room to an absolute, terrifying silence.
Sitting next to him, Gabriel Rossi—Salvatore’s thirty-two-year-old son—leaned forward instantly. Wearing a tailored maroon button-down shirt that highlighted his dark hair and light stubble, Gabriel’s face tightened with protective worry. He was highly observant and knew his father’s temper could end a life in seconds.
"Papa, that's enough," Gabriel warned in a low, tense whisper, trying to cut off his powerful father before things escalated.
But Tessa didn't back down. She placed her water pitcher firmly on the table. Her expression remained completely calm and unfazed by the most dangerous man in New York.
She looked Don Salvatore directly in the eyes.
"If Your Grace came here only to insult people," Tessa replied flawlessly, speaking his exact, rare old Palermo dialect, "I'll gladly help you find the door."
Salvatore froze completely. His fierce expression instantly shattered into profound shock as he heard his childhood language spoken by a stranger in America.
Gabriel and the bodyguards in dark suits stared at Tessa in stunned silence.
"What... did you just say?" Gabriel breathed, completely speechless.
Salvatore’s fingers trembled as he gripped his cane. His eyes welled with sudden, unexpected emotion.
