Chapter 55 - The Sisters Who StayedThe three Thorne sisters entered Claire's penthouse together.

Victoria walked first, followed by Eleanor.

Beatrice remained near the doorway.

Of the three, Beatrice had always been the cruelest.

She had mocked Claire's clothes, dismissed her education, and once told a room full of investors that their father's oldest daughter belonged behind a desk, not at the family table.

Now her hands were shaking.

Claire stood by the fireplace.

"Reyes told me you wanted to speak."

Beatrice nodded.

"I signed some of the transfers."

"I know."

"I knew Father was moving money through false charities."

Victoria turned sharply.

"Beatrice!"

Beatrice began crying.

"I didn't know everything. But I knew enough to understand something was wrong."

Claire felt a familiar ache.

"Then why did you do it?"

"Because he told me I'd lose my place in the family if I refused."

Claire remained silent.

Beatrice wiped her face.

"I spent my entire life trying to become the daughter Father was proud of."

She looked directly at Claire.

"And I hated you because he always said you were useless. But when the company was collapsing, he went to you. Every time."

Claire's expression shifted.

"He went to me because I could fix his mistakes."

"I know that now."

Beatrice opened her handbag and removed a small notebook.

It was filled with dates, account references, and handwritten initials.

"Father made me keep copies of the approvals. He didn't trust the European trustees."

Claire took the notebook.

A familiar name appeared near the bottom of one page.

Sabine Keller.

Beside it stood a reference to an old transportation company.

Claire frowned.

"What is this?"

"Father told me it had been closed years ago. But there were payments from it to a private security contractor."

Reyes, who had been waiting nearby, stepped forward.

She examined the page.

Then her expression changed.

The company had operated the vehicles involved in the disappearance of Elias and the death of Evelyn Shaw.

If the payments were genuine, they could connect Sabine directly to the operation.

"Where are the original records?" Reyes asked.

"In a storage archive Father leased under another company name."

Beatrice began trembling harder.

"He told me never to open that archive. He said some documents could destroy our family."

Claire looked at her.

"Your father destroyed this family long before you found those documents."

Beatrice lowered her head.

"I know."

For several moments, no one spoke.

Then Eleanor approached Claire.

"We don't expect you to forgive us."

Victoria nodded.

"We know we don't deserve that."

Claire looked at the three women who had made her childhood miserable.

For years, she had imagined the day they would finally recognize her worth.

Now that day had arrived, she realized something unexpected.

Their approval no longer mattered.

But their willingness to tell the truth did.

"You're going to testify," Claire said.

Beatrice nodded.

"Yes."

"And you're going to accept whatever consequences follow."

"Yes."

Claire exhaled.

"Then maybe one day we can build something that isn't based on fear."

Eleanor began crying.

"Does that mean you'll let us be your sisters?"

Claire looked at her for a long time.

May you like

"It means I'm willing to find out whether we can become sisters."

And for the first time, none of them demanded more.
