Chapter 11 - A Father’s Redemption and the Unfinished War

Julian cradled the tiny infant against his chest as if she were made of fragile glass, tears finally breaking free and spilling down his cheeks.
Baby Lily let out a soft, inquisitive coo, her tiny fingers reaching up to brush against the rough stubble of her father’s bruised jawline.
“Hey there, my little girl,” Julian choked out, pressing a tender kiss against the top of her soft, downy hair.
“I’m so sorry I left you in the dark... I’m so sorry I couldn’t come back sooner.”
Dominic stood silently nearby, watching the emotional reunion with a rare, quiet warmth settling deep within his armored chest.
For eighteen months, he had believed he was the last surviving branch of a broken family tree, destined to rule an empty empire alone.
Now, looking at his brother and his infant niece resting together, the heavy burden of the past finally began to lift.
“She has your eyes, Julian,” Dominic said quietly, breaking the emotional silence of the room.
“And she has your stubborn refusal to stay dead,” Julian laughed softly, wiping his wet eyes with the back of his uninjured hand.
“How long do we have before Marcus’s remaining allies in the federal government realize Sarah failed and try to strike back?”
Dominic’s expression hardened instantly, the warmth vanishing to reveal the cold, calculating strategist once again.
“Not long,” Dominic replied, walking over to the smart-monitor mounted on the nursery wall and tapping the screen.
“Thomas is already decrypting the flash drive in the sub-level lab. The moment those files hit the FBI’s internal integrity unit, the entire conspiracy collapses.”
“Marcus is locked in a secure black site, but he still has powerful friends in the judicial system who will try to silence us legally or physically.”
“Then we don’t wait for them to make the next move,” Julian stated firmly, handing Lily carefully back to Hannah before attempting to sit upright.
“If Marcus’s network is going to fall, I need to stand beside you in the boardroom when the final indictments are handed down.”
“You’re in no condition to walk, let alone testify in a federal court,” Dominic argued, crossing his arms.
“I survived an overpass crash, an underground holding cell, and a bulletproof glass shootout; a little shoulder wound isn't stopping me now,” Julian smirked stubbornly.
Hannah stepped forward, adjusting the blanket around Lily with a firm, determined expression on her face.
“He’s right, Dominic,” Hannah said quietly, looking directly into the billionaire's eyes.
“As long as Marcus’s co-conspirators think they can hide behind legal technicalities, none of us are truly safe.”
Dominic stared at them both for a long moment, realizing that stubbornness was apparently an inescapable genetic trait in the Caruso family.
“Fine,” Dominic finally conceded with a faint, dangerous smile.
“If we’re going to finish this war, we do it on our own terms.”

“Thomas, bring the decrypted files to the main executive boardroom immediately,” Dominic commanded into his earpiece.
“And prepare the corporate press corps; the Caruso empire is about to clean house.”
