Chapter 1 - The Echoes Of The Fallen Chalice

The heavy silence in the grand cathedral was absolutely suffocating,

pressing down on my chest like a physical weight.

Every single guest in the massive room completely froze in absolute shock,

their wide eyes locked on the terrifying scene unfolding before the sacred altar.

The violent rain continued to batter against the ancient stained glass windows,

creating a haunting melody that echoed the chaos erupting inside my spinning mind.

Adrian held me so tightly against his muscular chest,

his strong arms acting as an impenetrable shield against the dangerous world around us.

I could feel the frantic beating of his heart against my cheek,

a desperate rhythm that betrayed the immense fear hiding behind his ruthless reputation.

Marcus Hale did not hesitate for even a single fraction of a second,

moving with the lethal and terrifying grace of a highly trained apex predator.

He lunged toward the silver ceremonial cup resting on the velvet table,

his dark eyes narrowing with intense suspicion as he secured the heavily guarded vessel.

Richard Cross took a sudden and panicked step backward,

his normally composed face turning a sickly shade of pale gray,

as he realized his carefully orchestrated plan was rapidly crumbling into absolute dust.

"You have absolutely no right to touch that sacred wine,"

Richard shouted with a trembling voice,

desperately trying to maintain his crumbling authority in front of the massive audience.

Victoria let out a piercing and dramatic scream,

her diamond-covered hands pulling frantically at the delicate lace of her expensive wedding gown.

"This is a complete outrage,"

she cried out loudly,

pointing a perfectly manicured finger directly at my exhausted and collapsed form.

"She is nothing but a jealous liar,"

Victoria continued to scream into the echoing cathedral,

"trying to ruin the most important day of my entire life with her pathetic delusions."

But Adrian did not even glance in her direction,

his entire universe narrowing down to the fragile woman trembling in his protective embrace.

He slowly lifted his intense gaze from my pale face,

staring directly at Richard Cross with a look so cold and dangerous it could freeze the blazing sun.

"If there is nothing wrong with this cup,"

Adrian said in a voice dangerously soft and terrifyingly calm,

"then I suggest you take a deep drink from it right now,

Richard."

The silence that followed was so profound it physically hurt my ears.

Nobody dared to breathe,

nobody dared to make even the slightest movement,

as the undeniable truth hung heavily in the chilling cathedral air.

Richard swallowed hard,

his expensive silk tie suddenly looking like a tightening noose around his sweating neck.

He refused to look at the silver cup,

his silence speaking louder than any forced confession ever could.

Adrian gently scooped me up into his strong arms,

lifting me as easily as if I weighed absolutely nothing at all.

"Secure the building,"

Adrian commanded his loyal men without breaking eye contact with his enemies,

"and get the armored cars to the front doors immediately."

Marcus nodded sharply,

holding the silver cup like a piece of crucial evidence,

as dozens of Adrian's heavily armed guards stepped forward to form a protective wall.

"This wedding is over,"

Adrian declared with finality,

his deep voice leaving absolutely no room for any further argument or debate.

He turned his back on the furious Cross family,

carrying me away from the toxic altar and toward the heavy wooden doors.

I rested my heavy head against his broad shoulder,

feeling the protective warmth of his body seeping into my freezing skin.

The baby gave a small and gentle kick against my side,

as if sensing that we were finally safe in the arms of the only man who mattered.

My vision began to blur into dark shadows again,

the exhaustion of the last seven months finally catching up to my weakened body.

"Hold on for me,

Claire,"

May you like

Adrian whispered fiercely against my damp hair,

"I am never letting you go ever again."
