Chapter 20 - The Forever We Fought So Hard To Claim

The wedding music swelled softly into the cool night air as Adrian and I took our first slow,

graceful dance beneath the twinkling canopy of stars.

Lucas was fast asleep inside the warm,

secure nursery nearby, watched over by our most trusted guards,

leaving us entirely alone in our own private universe.

Adrian held me tightly against his chest,

his strong arms guiding me effortlessly across the polished stone floor of the rooftop garden.

I rested my head against his shoulder,

inhaling the familiar, comforting scent of his cologne mixed with the crisp mountain air.

"Are you happy,

my queen?"

he asked softly,

his lips brushing gently against the top of my hair.

"I am happier than I ever could have possibly dreamed of being,

Adrian,"

I answered honestly,

tightening my grip around his broad neck.

"Sometimes it still feels like a wonderful dream,

and I'm afraid I'll wake up back in that tiny apartment above the diner."

Adrian stopped dancing for a moment,

cupping my face gently in his large, warm hands and forcing me to look directly into his fierce, devoted eyes.

"Listen to me,

Claire,"

he commanded softly,

his voice carrying an absolute, unshakeable finality.

"This is our reality now.

Nobody will ever touch you,

nobody will ever threaten our son,

and nothing will ever tear this family apart."

I smiled brightly,

feeling all the remaining traces of fear and uncertainty melt away completely from my heart.

"I know,"

I whispered,

leaning up on my tiptoes to press one final, deeply passionate kiss to his lips.

"Because the Chicago Wolf is keeping watch."

Adrian laughed deeply and richly,

a sound full of genuine warmth and unadulterated triumph,

before sweeping me up effortlessly into his arms and spinning me around under the glittering canopy of stars.

We had survived the betrayal,

the poison,

the bullets,

and the relentless darkness of a world that tried to consume us.

We had built an empire of our own—not out of fear and terror,

but out of fierce loyalty, undeniable protection, and a love so powerful it could move mountains.

And as we stood together on the edge of our peaceful sanctuary,

May you like

looking out over the vast, beautiful world we had finally conquered,

I knew with absolute certainty that our story was truly and forever secure.
