Chapter 17 - The Heir To The Chicago Throne

The tiny newborn rested peacefully against Adrian’s broad,
muscular chest,
his miniature fingers curled tightly around one of his father’s massive,
calloused index fingers.
The entire master suite was bathed in a warm,
gentle light,
and the heavy tension that had defined our lives for so long was completely replaced by a profound,
unshakable peace.
Adrian sat on the edge of the bed,
his gaze locked entirely on the sleeping infant with a fierce,
unconditional adoration that took my breath away.
"Look at him,
Claire,"
Adrian whispered softly,
his voice thick with emotion as he gently shifted the baby so I could see his tiny face more clearly.
"He has your eyes,"
I murmured,
exhausted but completely filled with a deep,
radiant happiness as I traced my finger lightly over the baby's soft cheek.
"And your stubborn chin,"
Adrian added with a low,
warm chuckle,
bending down to press a tender kiss to the top of the infant's dark,
fuzzy hair.
Marcus Hale knocked softly on the open bedroom door before stepping respectfully into the room,
holding a secure tablet against his chest.
"Boss,
congratulations,"
Marcus said,
a rare,
genuine smile breaking across his hardened features.
"The eastern territories have sent their formal respects,
and the council has officially registered the birth of the new heir."
Adrian didn't even look up from the baby,
his entire universe firmly anchored right here in the center of this bed.
"Let them know that the Moretti dynasty no longer expands through bloodshed and territorial war,
Marcus,"
Adrian instructed calmly,
his voice carrying the absolute weight of a king who had finally found his true kingdom.
"We protect what is ours,
and we build our future on stability and absolute loyalty."
"Understood,
boss,"
Marcus replied respectfully,
nodding once before quietly turning and leaving us alone with our new reality.
Adrian slid carefully onto the mattress beside me,
pulling both of us into his strong,
protective embrace without disturbing our sleeping son.
"What should we name him,
my love?"
Adrian asked softly,
his dark eyes shining with deep affection as he looked down at me.
"Let's name him Lucas,"
I suggested gently,
the name feeling entirely right for a boy born into the heart of a fierce storm but destined for a peaceful dawn.
"Lucas Moretti,"
Adrian repeated slowly,
testing the sound on his tongue before nodding with absolute approval.

"It is a strong name for a strong boy.
And he will grow up knowing he is the most protected child in this entire world."
