Chapter 9 - The Desperate Gambit Of A Spurned Bride

The deafening and highly terrifying shriek of the massive security alarms completely and instantly drowned out every other sound in the luxurious penthouse.
Adrian's completely exhausted and deeply sorrowful demeanor instantly and violently vanished,
replaced completely and immediately by the cold and highly terrifying precision of a seasoned and incredibly dangerous wartime commander.
He grabbed me tightly and securely by the arm,
pulling me quickly and heavily behind his massive and highly muscular frame as we moved rapidly toward the center of the large room.
Marcus Hale burst violently and suddenly through the heavy double doors leading to the private security stairwell,
his massive assault rifle fully raised and completely ready to unleash highly devastating destruction.
"The Cross family just launched a completely massive and highly coordinated assault on the main lobby,"
Marcus yelled loudly over the screaming and wailing alarms,
his face a highly focused mask of pure and absolute deadly concentration.
"They brought three heavily armored vans filled completely with independent and highly trained mercenary hitmen,"
he reported rapidly and breathlessly,
"and they are heavily blowing completely through our lower defensive lines with military-grade explosives."
Adrian did not hesitate for even a single fraction of a terrifying second,
his strategic and highly brilliant mind instantly and completely mapping out the absolute best path to ultimate survival.
"Victoria,"
Adrian growled deeply and dangerously,
his voice practically dripping with absolute and highly concentrated venom and extreme hatred.
"She must have completely realized that Lorenzo failed to assassinate me,
and now she is throwing everything they have in a highly desperate and completely suicidal frontal assault,"
he deduced quickly and accurately.
He turned to me rapidly,
his strong hands gripping my shaking shoulders with a fierce and highly commanding strength that completely grounded my overwhelming panic.
"Claire,
you need to go into the heavily reinforced secure panic room right now,"
he ordered strictly and absolutely,
pointing directly toward the hidden and heavily disguised steel door located behind the massive bookshelf.
"No,
I want to stay right here with you,"
I pleaded desperately and tearfully,
my heart pounding so hard and so fast that it physically and deeply ached inside my incredibly tight chest.
"You are carrying my unborn child,"
Adrian reminded me fiercely and loudly,
his eyes completely burning with a deeply desperate and highly terrifying need to keep me absolutely safe.
"I cannot properly and fully defend this entire massive fortress if I am constantly worrying about your safety,"
he explained rapidly and forcefully,
pushing me gently but firmly toward the hidden and highly secure titanium bunker.
I knew deeply and truly that he was absolutely right,
my pregnant and highly vulnerable state making me a massive and completely dangerous liability in a high-stakes and incredibly bloody gunfight.
Marcus quickly punched in a highly complex and highly classified passcode into the hidden digital keypad,
and the massive bookshelf slowly and heavily swung open to reveal the incredibly thick and completely bulletproof steel door of the safe room.
"Get inside immediately,
and do not open this incredibly heavy door for absolutely anyone except me or Marcus,"
Adrian commanded firmly and strictly,
pressing one final and highly desperate kiss to my trembling lips.
I stepped quickly and carefully into the small and highly claustrophobic secure room,
surrounded completely by highly advanced and incredibly complex communication equipment and heavy medical supplies.
As the massive and incredibly heavy steel door began to close slowly and loudly,
I caught one final and deeply terrifying glimpse of Adrian completely and effortlessly chambering a high-caliber round into his massive and deadly automatic weapon.
He looked completely and undeniably like the terrifying and highly lethal monster that the entire city deeply feared,
ready and highly eager to unleash absolute and highly devastating hell upon anyone who dared to threaten his family.
