Chapter 7 - The Downfall of the Conspirators

Two weeks later, the criminal proceedings against Mason and Vanessa began with swift, merciless precision. The public outcry was so immense that local prosecutors fast-tracked the charges.
The courtroom was packed to capacity. Media outlets from around the world spilled out into the corridors, broadcasting every detail of the trial. Vanessa sat at the defense table in a drab grey jumpsuit, her designer clothes and arrogant smirk completely gone. Mason sat beside her, staring blankly at the polished wooden table, refusing to look at the gallery where several former business associates and board members sat watching in cold disgust.
The prosecution presented the unedited video footage from Leo’s camera, the audio confession of the corporate conspiracy, and medical reports documenting Ethan’s psychological distress. The jury deliberated for less than twenty-five minutes.
"Guilty on all counts," the foreman announced clearly.

Judge Henderson banged his gavel with absolute finality. "Mason Harrison, for the crimes of conspiracy, corporate fraud, and child abuse, I sentence you to fifteen years in federal prison without the possibility of parole. Vanessa Harrison, for complicity, assault, and child endangerment, you are sentenced to ten years."
Gasps echoed through the courtroom. Vanessa buried her face in her hands, letting out a muffled, desperate sob as federal marshals stepped forward, clicking heavy steel handcuffs around her wrists. As they were led away through the back doors, Mason caught a glimpse of David sitting quietly in the back row of the gallery. Mason’s eyes flashed with pure hatred, but David didn't flinch. He simply watched his brother disappear into the shadows of accountability.
