Chapter 26 - The Trojan Protocol

The subterranean sea cave beneath the Harrison estate was carved directly out of the coastal basalt, accessible only via a hidden hydraulic elevator behind the wine cellars.

Seawater surged into the grotto in foaming, rhythmic swells, sloshing against the reinforced concrete docks. Moored in the center of the dark cavern was the *Valkyrie*—a thirty-eight-foot carbon-fiber stealth interceptor boat originally commissioned by Rachel’s private intelligence firm for covert maritime interdiction. Painted in radar-absorbent matte black, equipped with twin submerged waterjets and zero-acoustic thermal baffling, the vessel sat in the water like an invisible blade.

Ethan stood beside the cockpit console, wearing an oversized waterproof tactical jacket, his small fingers rapidly wiring a portable military signal transcriber into the boat’s navigational array.

"Mom," Ethan said, looking up as Rachel strapped on an amphibious assault harness fitted with sub-aquatic rebreathers and combat dive gear. "The *Leviathan*’s automated point-defense system uses an X-band surface radar. If you approach on the surface, its 30mm rotary cannons will tear the *Valkyrie* to pieces at twelve hundred yards."

"Then we don't approach on the surface," Rachel said, tightening the leg straps of her tactical rig. She checked her suppressed submachine gun, sealed in a watertight neoprene sleeve.

"We have to give the ship’s AI a ghost to chase," David said, emerging from the armory locker carrying two heavy waterproof Pelican cases. He set them down on the deck, popping the latches to reveal three diver propulsion vehicles—sleek, torpedo-shaped underwater scooters equipped with silent electric thrusters.

"Ethan," Rachel said, turning to her son. "What did you find in the secondary layer of the Vance Archive?"

Ethan adjusted his screen, bringing up a complex architectural schematic of the *Leviathan*.

"It’s not just a yacht," Ethan explained, pointing to a highlighted red compartment near the keel of the massive ship. "It was originally built as a floating command-and-control center for the Board’s executive committee. The primary server farm is located below the waterline, right next to the moon pool used for their private submersible."

"A moon pool," Rachel noted, her tactical mind instantly seizing on the vulnerability. "That means there’s an open-water entry point directly into the belly of the ship."

"Yes," Ethan said. "The moon pool hatch is underwater. If their submersible is currently deployed or docked, the bay doors have a hydro-acoustic sensor array. But if I load a **Trojan Protocol** into their telemetry stream through the *Valkyrie*’s transceiver, I can spoof the acoustic signature. I can make the *Leviathan*’s central computer believe your dive team is their own returning reconnaissance mini-sub."

David let out a low whistle. "A five-year-old child just found a backdoor into a hundred-million-dollar warship’s defense grid."

"He’s not just any child," Rachel said, placing a gentle hand on Ethan’s head. "He’s a Harrison. And he’s my son."

She looked into Ethan’s eyes, her gaze intensely serious. "Ethan, you will remain here in the cave with Marcus and the three surviving guards. The heavy blast doors will be sealed behind us. You do not open them for anyone except Uncle David or me. Understood?"

"Understood, Mom," Ethan nodded firmly. "I will maintain the jamming bubble over the coastline and monitor your biometric telemetry from the master console here. If your heart rate spikes above one hundred and sixty, I’ll know you’re engaged in combat."

"Keep it under control, kiddo," Rachel whispered, kissing his cheek. "We’ll be back before dawn."

She pulled her tactical diving mask over her face, checked the oxygen mix on her rebreather, and nodded to David.

"Marcus, open the sea gates," David ordered into his radio.

Deep beneath the water, the massive hydraulic iron gates guarding the entrance to the sea cave groaned open against the surging tide. The dark, freezing waters of the North Atlantic rushed into the cavern, churning around the hulls.

Rachel and David swung their legs over the edge of the dock, dropping silently into the black, icy water. They engaged their electric diver propulsion vehicles. With a faint, high-pitched hum that was completely undetectable beneath the surface, the two twin thrusters propelled them downward into the freezing abyss, gliding out of the cave and heading directly toward the distant, glowing silhouette of the *Leviathan*.

Behind them, high up in the mansion’s locked library, Julianna Vance sat bound in the heavy leather armchair.

Her hands were cuffed behind her back, but beneath the cuff sleeves, her long, manicured fingernails had slowly, patiently begun working a tiny ceramic lock-pick hidden within the seam of her trousers.

Outside the library door, the single guard stationed to watch her stood facing the hallway, his assault rifle slung across his chest, completely unaware of the tiny, rhythmic scratching of steel against chrome echoing in the dark room.

Julianna’s eyes glowed with a terrifying, venomous patience.

"Go ahead, Rachel," Julianna whispered into the darkness. "Board the ship. Walk into the sanctuary of the Nine. You think you're hunting them... but you're swimming directly into the slaughterhouse."
