Chapter 8 - The Cornered Snake

The heavy, suffocating silence in the restaurant was violently shattered by the sound of Salvatore’s chair scraping backward.

The aging Don stood up to his full height. The trembling, emotional grandfather completely vanished. The terrifying, ruthless, and merciless mafia patriarch fully awakened, his eyes turning blacker than midnight as he stared at his wife.

"You killed my son," Salvatore whispered. It wasn't a question. It was a death sentence.

Isabella realized her twenty-five-year illusion had just violently collapsed. The high-society, arrogant mask completely shattered into a million pieces, leaving only a desperate, feral monster in its place.

"I did it for us!" Isabella shrieked hysterically, backing away from the table. "Antonio was weak! He was going to ruin the syndicate! Gabriel is the true king! I secured this empire for my son!"

Gabriel stared at his mother, pure, unadulterated disgust radiating from his face.

"You murdered my brother," Gabriel choked out, taking a definitive step away from her. "You let me grow up thinking he was a traitor. You are a monster."

Isabella saw the absolute hatred in her son's eyes. She realized she had lost him, too. Cornered and desperate, she resorted to her final, deadly contingency plan.

"Kill them!" Isabella screamed at the top of her lungs, looking at the three bodyguards she had personally placed on the payroll. "Kill the girl and the old man! Gabriel, we are taking the throne tonight!"
