Chapter 17 - the descending blade

"They are wiring the structural columns!" Tessa yelled, watching the security feeds with wide, horrified eyes. "If those charges detonate, the tower will pancake in seconds." Gabriel didn't wait for orders. He grabbed a heavy assault rifle and a tactical vest. "Hold the penthouse. Do not let anyone up here," he commanded, sprinting toward the emergency stairwell. He moved with blinding, terrifying speed, a one-man army descending into the abyss to protect his bloodline. Gabriel hit the lobby like a dark, unstoppable hurricane. He didn't waste a single bullet. He moved from shadow to shadow, snapping necks and delivering lethal, silenced headshots before the mercenaries even knew they were being hunted. But time was rapidly running out. The red timers on the C4 charges were blinking aggressively, counting down from three minutes. High above in the penthouse, Tessa hacked into the building’s fire suppression matrix. She overrode the safety protocols, flooding the lobby with dense, blinding foam and freezing water to slow the mercenaries down and ruin their detonators. It was a brilliant, desperate move that gave Gabriel exactly the opening he needed to strike the cartel leader.
