Chapter 11 - the cartel debt

The transition from a simple waitress to the right hand of the most feared mafia patriarch in New York was not without its dark shadows. Tessa stood by the floor-to-ceiling window of the Rossi tower, looking over the glittering city. The antique silver locket rested heavily against her chest. Downstairs, the syndicate was celebrating, but the peace was violently fragile. Salvatore entered the room, his silver cane clicking against the marble. His face was grim and exhausted. "Isabella is gone, but the cartel she paid to murder your father is not," the Don said, his voice a low, dangerous rumble. "They want the rest of the blood money she promised them." Gabriel followed close behind, slipping a loaded magazine into his firearm. "They just hit our docks. El Fantasma, the boss of the southern faction, is sending a brutal message." Tessa did not flinch. She turned around, her eyes mirroring the exact cold, calculating intelligence of her father. "If they want a war over my father's ghost, we will give them one," she stated smoothly. She walked toward the mahogany desk, pulling out her father's blood-stained ledger. "They think we are vulnerable. Let's show them the true power of this bloodline."
