Chapter 6 - The Discharge And The Fortress Of Solitude

Ten days after the horrific attack that stole her unborn twins,
Mabel Vance was finally discharged from Mercy General Hospital.
A fleet of bulletproof black SUVs waited outside the private hospital exit,
surrounded by private security operatives in tactical suits.
Julian stood by the sliding doors,
holding a wheelchair and a warm cashmere coat to shield his sister from the chilly autumn air.
Mabel stepped forward on her own two feet,
refusing the wheelchair with a quiet,
resolute shake of her head.
“I can walk,
Julian,
” Mabel said softly,
her posture upright despite the lingering ache in her abdomen.
“You've proven your strength a thousand times over,
little sister,
but there's no harm in leaning on me,
” Julian smiled gently.
They climbed into the center SUV,
which pulled away smoothly escorted by security vehicles blocking out the aggressive paparazzi.
Instead of returning to the marital penthouse in downtown Chicago,
they drove north toward a secluded estate overlooking Lake Michigan.
The estate was surrounded by iron gates,
advanced motion sensors,
and twenty-four-hour armed security patrols.
“Welcome to your new sanctuary,
Mabel,
” Julian announced as the SUV came to a stop in front of a grand stone manor.
“No one gets in here without my explicit clearance,
and Flynn's lawyers couldn't find this location in a million years.
” Mabel stepped out of the vehicle,
breathing in the crisp lake air as she looked out over the vast,
turbulent blue waters.
“It's beautiful,
Julian,
” Mabel murmured,
a faint sense of peace washing over her tormented mind.
“It's safe,
” Julian corrected her firmly.
“And from here,
we launch the final phase of our legal destruction against Flynn.
” Inside the manor,
a dedicated legal war room had been set up,
complete with whiteboards mapping out every corporate asset and criminal charge.
Her lead attorney,
Victoria Vance,
a brilliant senior partner at Apex Legal,
was waiting inside with a stack of documents.
“Welcome home,
Mabel,
” Victoria greeted her warmly,
handing her a steaming cup of herbal tea.
“We received Selina's signed cooperation agreement this morning from the federal prosecutor's office.
” “She gave up all of Flynn's hidden offshore accounts in the Cayman Islands and Switzerland.
” Mabel took the tea,
wrapping her hands around the warm ceramic cup as a cold,
satisfied smile touched her lips.
“Selina turned on him that fast?” “Within ten minutes of being shown Flynn's confession,
” Victoria laughed lightly.
“Greedy people never have loyalty,
Mabel,
they only have self-preservation.
” “Good,
” Mabel whispered,
her eyes locking onto the massive whiteboard covered in financial schematics.
“Freeze every single account,
liquidate his personal assets,
May you like
and make sure he cannot afford a public defender by tomorrow morning.
