Chapter 4 - A Clash of Wrath

Victoria walked slowly down the grand marble stairs,

her high heels striking each step with a deliberate,

smug rhythm.

She showed absolutely no remorse,

no guilt,

and no shame for what had just occurred on the upper steps.

Her face was cold,

calculating,

and filled with arrogant disdain.

Victoria: You should learn your place in this house,

Sarah,

you are nothing more than a paid servant hired to clean floors.

Sarah: You are a monster for treating a child like this,

a heartless,

cruel monster!

Victoria: I am the mistress of this mansion,

so watch your tongue before I destroy your miserable life.

Sarah carefully set little Leo down behind her protective stance,

ensuring he was tucked safely away from Victoria's reach.

She stepped forward,

placing her own body directly between the child and the dangerous woman.

She confronted the cruel stepmother face to face,

her chest rising and falling with deep,

furious breaths.

Sarah: I will never let you harm this child again,

do you hear me?

Never!

Victoria: Who do you think anyone will believe if you speak of this?

A poor,

penniless maid,

or the elegant wife of Richard Davis?

You have no proof,

no witnesses,

and no standing.

Victoria sneered bitterly,

raising her right hand with sudden aggression.

She attempted to push Sarah violently out of her way to get to the boy.

Sarah reacted instantly,

her instincts sharp and unyielding.

She raised her arm,

blocked the woman's aggressive hand in mid-air,

and stepped into Victoria's personal space.

With all the righteous fury built up inside her,

Sarah slapped Victoria across the face with a loud,

resounding crack.

The sound echoed off the high ceilings of the marble foyer like a gunshot.

Victoria gasped sharply,

stumbling back several steps against the heavy wooden railing of the stairs.

She held her reddened,

burning cheek in absolute disbelief and total shock.

Never in her entire life had anyone dared to touch her,

let alone a housemaid.

Victoria: How dare you lay a hand on me,

you filthy,

common peasant!

Sarah: You deserve far worse for putting an innocent child's life in danger!

Leo watched from behind Sarah with wide,

tear-filled eyes,

clutching the hem of Sarah's apron.

Despite the chaos and shouting,

the boy felt truly safe for the very first time since his father had married Victoria.

Victoria's face twisted with intense rage,

her composure completely shattering.

Victoria: I am firing you right now,

do you hear me?

Get your things and get out of my house this instant!

Sarah: I am not going anywhere until Richard returns home and hears the truth!

Victoria pulled out her modern,

expensive smartphone from her designer purse.

Her hands trembled with anger as she unlocked the screen,

intending to call her powerful corporate lawyers to have Sarah forcibly removed by security.

Victoria: I will have you arrested for assault,

you will spend the rest of your life behind bars!

Before she could press the dial button,

the heavy,

ornate front doors of the mansion swung wide open.

May you like

A sudden rush of cool,

rain-scented outdoor air swept dramatically into the grand entrance hall.
