Chapter 14 - Entrapping the Mastermind

Later that evening,

inside a high-end,

dimly lit restaurant in the financial district,

Julian Vance sat at a corner table.

He was sipping expensive red wine,

feeling extremely pleased with himself.

He was waiting for a covert meeting with a corrupt private investigator whom he had hired to destroy Sarah's reputation.

Julian took a slow sip of wine,

checking his gold watch impatiently.

Julian: What is taking that fool so long?

He should have had the fake photographic evidence ready by now.

Suddenly,

the heavy velvet curtains surrounding the private dining booth were pulled open.

Instead of his private investigator,

Richard Davis stepped into the booth,

dressed in a tailored suit,

his face dark and expressionless.

Behind Richard stood Captain Vance and two senior police detectives wearing formal badge clips on their belts.

Julian froze in mid-sip,

the wine glass hovering near his lips as his cold gray eyes widened in shock.

Julian: Richard?

What is the meaning of this intrusion?

This is a private table!

Richard pulled out a heavy oak chair and sat down directly across from Julian.

He rested his elbows on the table and folded his hands,

staring at Julian with pure,

calculated contempt.

Richard: Your game is over,

Julian.

I know about the twelve million dollars you helped Victoria embezzle from my corporate accounts.

I know about the offshore shell companies in the Grand Cayman islands.

And most importantly,

I know about the two thugs you hired yesterday to threaten my housekeeper's mother.

Julian's face twitched slightly,

but he quickly forced a smug,

arrogant smile onto his lips.

Julian: You are making wild,

unfounded accusations,

Richard.

You have zero proof linking me to any money transfers or street thugs.

My legal team will sue you for slander before the night is over!

Detective Ramsey,

the lead detective standing behind Richard,

pulled out a tablet device and tapped the screen.

A clear audio recording began playing through the tablet speakers.

The voice was unmistakably Julian's,

recorded during his visit to Victoria in the detention facility:

"By this time next week, the maid will either be discredited beyond repair, or she will be in no position to speak a single word in a court of law..."

Julian's smug smile vanished completely,

his face turning as pale as a bedsheet.

Detective Ramsey: We tapped the visitation room phone lines under a federal court warrant,

Mr. Vance.

Furthermore,

we arrested your two hired thugs two hours ago outside Mrs. Jenkins' apartment.

They folded under interrogation within ten minutes,

providing full digital bank records showing direct wire transfers from your personal account to theirs.

Julian gasped for air,

stumbling backward in his seat as he realized his entire web of deceit had collapsed.

Detective Ramsey: Julian Vance,

you are under arrest for conspiracy to commit witness intimidation,

obstruction of justice,

and grand larceny.

The detective stepped forward and slapped a heavy pair of steel handcuffs onto Julian's wrist.

The arrogant banker was dragged out of the luxury restaurant in shame,

surrounded by shocked patrons and flashing police lights.
