Chapter 5 - Unmasked Before the Law

Richard Davis walked inside the grand entrance hall,

wearing his sharp,

tailored dark suit and silk tie.

Beside him stood two uniformed local police officers,

whom he had brought along after completing his business early to discuss routine security upgrades for the estate.

Richard had returned home early from his business meeting specifically to surprise his beloved young son with gifts.

However,

as he stepped across the threshold,

he froze near the doorway,

his eyes widening in total disbelief at the chaotic,

dramatic scene unfolding in his home.

Victoria was holding her bruised cheek,

glaring furiously,

while Sarah stood in a defensive combat stance in front of a crying Leo.

Richard: What on earth is going on in my house?!

His deep,

booming voice cut through the air,

instantly silencing the room.

The heavy front doors closed behind them with a loud,

echoing thud.

Richard walked briskly into the center of the spacious marble foyer,

his brow furrowed with extreme confusion and rapidly growing concern.

Richard: Why is everyone shouting in here,

and why are you crying,

Leo?

Victoria's expression shifted in a split second.

The malice vanished from her face,

replaced instantly by an act of exaggerated pain and sorrow.

She squeezed out fake tears,

letting them roll down her cheeks,

and rushed toward her husband with an exaggerated limp.

Victoria: Oh darling,

thank goodness you arrived just in time,

it has been an absolute nightmare!

Richard grabbed her shoulders gently,

looking at her swollen cheek with confusion.

Richard: Victoria,

what happened to your cheek,

who did this to you?

Victoria: This crazy maid attacked me without warning!

She threatened your little boy,

and when I tried to stop her,

she struck me across the face!

She is dangerous,

Richard,

you must have these officers arrest her immediately!

Sarah stood her ground firmly on the marble floor,

refusing to back down or show a single trace of fear.

She held Leo's small,

trembling hand tightly in her own warm,

reassuring grasp.

Sarah: Do not listen to her manipulative lies,

Mr. Davis,

she is trying to invert the truth!

Richard: Sarah,

please explain what is happening right now,

I demand an explanation!

Before Sarah could utter another word,

little Leo stepped out from behind Sarah's protective stance.

He pointed his small,

shaking finger directly at Victoria's face,

his young voice trembling with deep emotion,

courage,

and leftover terror.

Leo: Dad,

she is lying!

She tried to hurt me at the top of the stairs!

Richard looked down at his young son in total shock,

his heart dropping into his stomach.

Richard: What did you just say,

Leo?

Leo: She grabbed my arm real hard,

Dad,

and she dragged me to the edge!

She tried to push me down the big stairs,

but Sarah ran and caught me before I hit the floor!

Victoria: He is lying,

Richard!

The boy is making up wild stories because he hates me!

Sarah: I caught him at the bottom of the steps with my own arms,

Mr. Davis,

and if you do not believe our words,

look right up there!

Sarah pointed her finger toward the small,

high-definition security camera mounted discreetly on the upper wall.

The lens was focused directly on the grand marble staircase landing above.

Sarah: Check the security camera footage if you do not believe us,

it records everything in real time.

Victoria's face turned completely pale,

the color draining from her lips as she looked up at the blinking camera light.

In her blind rage and ambition,

she had completely forgotten that Richard had installed new,

state-of-the-art security cameras throughout the mansion just last month.

Richard's eyes narrowed dangerously as he pulled out his smart tablet device from his leather briefcase.

He quickly accessed the secure live feed app and selected the playback footage from the upper hallway for the past twenty minutes.

The room descended into absolute,

deafening silence as Richard watched the screen.

His face contorted from utter confusion into deep,

boiling,

uncontrollable anger.

On the high-resolution screen,

he clearly saw Victoria grabbing his terrified child,

dragging him violently to the edge,

and watching cold-heartedly as the boy slipped over the brink.

He saw Sarah's heroic sprint and incredible catch at the base of the stairs.

Richard turned his gaze slowly toward Victoria,

his eyes burning with pure hatred and betrayal.
