Chapter 1 - The Cold Shadow in the Hallway

A few days later,

the cold,

unforgiving rain tapped softly against the tall glass windows of the grand Davis mansion.

Inside the vast,

echoing estate,

the atmosphere was heavy,

gloomy,

and filled with an unspoken dread.

Richard Davis,

the wealthy owner of the estate,

was away at an important business meeting in the city center.

His presence usually brought order to the mansion,

but in his absence,

a sinister silence crept into every room.

Young Leo,

just seven years old,

was playing quietly near the top of the grand marble staircase.

He sat on the cold floor,

surrounded by his small plastic toy cars,

completely unaware of the danger lurking nearby.

Leo missed his late mother dearly,

and in this huge mansion,

he often felt lonely and isolated.

His small hands moved the cars across the polished surface,

making quiet engine noises to pass the time.

Suddenly,

a shadow fell over the little boy.

Victoria,

his cold-hearted stepmother,

walked up the stairs with slow,

deliberate,

and quiet footsteps.

She was dressed in an expensive silk gown,

her face set in a hard,

unfeeling mask.

Her sharp,

dark eyes fixed upon the young child with deep anger,

jealousy,

and bitter malice.

Victoria had always resented Leo,

viewing him as the sole obstacle standing between her and the vast Davis fortune.

If Leo were out of the picture,

everything Richard owned would eventually belong to her.

She stood over the innocent child,

her presence dark and towering.

Victoria: Why are you always standing in my way,

you useless little parasite?

Leo looked up from his toys with wide,

frightened eyes,

feeling a sudden chill run down his spine.

He shrank back slightly,

clutching a small red toy car tightly against his chest.

Leo: I am just playing with my cars,

Victoria,

I am not doing anything wrong.

Victoria: You do not belong in this rich home anymore,

and I am tired of looking at your pathetic face.

She stepped even closer to him,

her high heels clicking ominously against the hard floor.

Without a moment of hesitation,

she reached down and grabbed his small upper arm tightly.

Her long nails dug into his delicate skin,

causing the young boy to cry out in pain.

Leo tried to pull away from her strong grip,

his small frame trembling with fear.

Leo: Let go of me,

you are hurting my arm,

please let me go!

Victoria: Nobody is here to protect you today,

little boy,

your father is miles away,

and no one can save you from me.

Her voice was cold,

sharp,

and devoid of any human warmth.

She squeezed his arm harder,

ignoring his soft whimpers.

Leo looked around frantically,

hoping to see a friendly face,

but the long hallway was empty.

The rain outside continued to beat mercilessly against the glass,

muffling the child's desperate cries.

Victoria stared down at him with a cruel,

satisfied smile,

relishing the complete terror in his eyes.

She began dragging him closer toward the top step of the steep,

May you like

perilous staircase,

her dark intentions becoming clearer with every passing second.
