Chapter 11 - The Shadow of Damien Cross

The morning sun rose over the Pacific Ocean,

casting brilliant golden light across the glass towers of San Diego.

Victoria sat in her sprawling executive suite on the top floor of Vextor Dynamics,

reviewing the quarterly financial reports with a keen,

unforgiving eye.

Under her leadership,

the company had eliminated its toxic debts,

restructured its research divisions,

and regained the trust of international investors.

Yet,

despite the overwhelming success,

her instincts warned her that the calm in the air was merely temporary.

Her phone chimed softly on the polished marble desk,

and Marcus Vance walked into the office,

his face grim and carrying a dark leather portfolio.

"Victoria,"

Marcus began,

closing the heavy double doors behind him,

"we have a serious anomaly in the market."

"Explain,"

Victoria replied calmly,

setting down her fountain pen and leaning back in her leather chair.

"An offshore investment entity called Apex Global Holdings has aggressively acquired nine percent of our floating shares over the past forty-eight hours,"

Marcus reported,

opening the portfolio and placing a series of ownership charts on her desk.

"They are buying at above-market prices,"

"bypassing standard brokerage channels,"

"and using shell companies registered in the Cayman Islands."

Victoria picked up the top document,

her dark eyes scanning the complex web of holding companies and nominee directors.

"Who is behind Apex Global?"

she asked,

her voice dropping an octave as she recognized a familiar signature pattern in the routing codes.

"Damien Cross,"

Marcus answered,

his tone heavy with apprehension.

"The British venture capitalist based in London."

"He is known in global markets as a corporate predator who destroys companies from within."

A cold,

calculated smile touched Victoria's lips as she connected the pieces of the puzzle.

"Damien Cross was not just a random investor,"

Victoria noted softly.

"He was the primary financial backer behind the Tucson fertility clinic where Michelle obtained Julian's samples."

"Precisely,"

Marcus confirmed,

nodding his head in agreement.

"Our intelligence team discovered that Cross financed Raymond Lawson's illegal offshore accounts."

"He used Michelle and Raymond to fracture the Lawson family dynasty,"

"hoping to destabil2e Vextor Dynamics so he could execute a hostile takeover."

"He thought Christopher would maintain control of the company,"

"allowing him to bleed our primary patents through backroom deals."

"But when you stripped Christopher of his power and seized majority control,"

"Damien's long-term investment turned into a massive liability."

Victoria stood up from her chair and walked toward the floor-to-ceiling glass wall,

looking down at the busy city below.

"So Damien Cross is coming to claim what he believes is his,"

Victoria said,

her voice steady and devoid of fear.

"He thinks he can bully a newly appointed female CEO,"

"assuming I will panic and buy back those shares at an inflated price."

"He has already requested an urgent private meeting with you,"

Marcus added,

pulling a formal letter from his pocket.

"He arrived in San Diego on his private jet two hours ago,"

"and he is demanding an audience at the harbor yacht club at six o'clock tonight."

"Accept the invitation,"

Victoria instructed without a second of hesitation.

"Tell Mr. Cross that I am looking forward to discussing his sudden interest in my company."

"Should I double our private security detail?"

Marcus asked,

watching her closely.

"No,"

Victoria answered smoothly,

turning back to face him with absolute confidence.

"Damien Cross wants a show of power,"

"and I am going to show him exactly who owns this city."
