Chapter 29 - The Wedding of New York

The morning of the wedding was blessed with pristine, glorious sunshine.

St. Patrick’s Cathedral on Fifth Avenue was adorned with thousands of white roses, lilies, and cascading ivy. The pews were filled with five thousand guests—a historic gathering that brought together federal judges, high-ranking senators, union dockworkers in their finest Sunday suits, and working-class families from every borough of the city.

At the front of the altar stood Dante Moretti, looking dashing and majestic in a tailored charcoal three-piece suit. Around his neck was Giuseppe Falcone’s vintage tie, the gold motto Fidelitas Vincit Omnia resting right over his heart. Beside him stood Marco as his best man, beaming with unreserved pride.

The great organ swelled, its majestic chords rolling through the cathedral like thunder.

The massive bronze doors opened.

First came Frank Brennan, towering with dignity, walking down the aisle with little Lily Castellanos holding his hand. Lily wore an enchanting flower-girl dress made of delicate white silk, with a sash of lemon-yellow ribbon. In her small hands, she carried a velvet pillow holding the wedding rings, with her beloved dolphin scissors resting beside them.

Lily beamed at the crowd, waving to the dockworkers and blowing kisses to the reporters, stealing every single heart in the cathedral.

Then, the entire congregation rose to their feet.

Elena Castellanos stepped onto the aisle, escorted by Father Thomas.

She took Dante’s breath away.

Her wedding gown was a masterwork of lace and silk, trailing behind her like a river of white petals. Around her wrist was Jorge’s bronze anchor watch, ticking steadily, a timeless symbol of an enduring love that had crossed from heaven to earth. Her face was radiant with a beauty so pure, so regal, that several elderly women in the pews openly wept with joy.

When Elena reached the altar, Dante stepped down to take her hand. Their eyes locked in a silent exchange of eternal devotion.

Father Thomas raised his hands, smiling warmly at the couple. "We are gathered here today to witness not merely the union of two souls, but the triumph of light over darkness, truth over betrayal, and love over fear."

The vows were spoken with clear, resonant voices that echoed through the sacred hall.

When it came time for the rings, Father Thomas looked down at the velvet pillow. "And who gives these rings to seal this holy covenant?"

Lily stepped forward, her voice ringing clear through the microphone: "I do! Because Dante is my daddy now, and Mami is his queen!"

Laughter and happy tears rippled through the five thousand guests.

Dante took the platinum ring, sliding it onto Elena’s finger. "With this ring, Elena, I give you my life, my honor, and my heart. Forever."

Elena slipped the matching gold band onto Dante’s hand. "With this ring, Dante, I give you my faith, my love, and our home. For all eternity."

"By the power vested in me," Father Thomas announced with immense joy. "I pronounce you husband and wife. Dante, you may kiss your bride!"

Dante wrapped his arms around Elena, lifting her slightly as he kissed her with all the passion and devotion in his soul. The cathedral exploded into deafening applause, cheers, and standing ovations that echoed down Fifth Avenue.

Dante knelt down, opening his arms wide. Lily jumped straight into his embrace, and Elena wrapped her arms around both of them, forming an unbreakable circle of love.
