Chapter 16 - The Dawn of a New Era

The mahogany desk in the corner CEO suite felt different now,

because it belonged to me by absolute right,

not by marriage or inheritance.

The morning sun poured through the glass walls,

illuminating the Chicago skyline in golden light,

as I reviewed the quarterly performance metrics.

Under my leadership,

Bennett Enterprises had recovered every lost share,

outperforming financial projections for three consecutive months.

Margaret entered the office carrying a thin silver binder,

a bright smile on her face.

"The board has approved the international expansion into European markets,"

she announced,

setting the binder down gently.

"You've turned a crumbling legacy into an unstoppable global force,

Emily."

"We aren't done yet,

Margaret,"

I replied,

looking up with focused determination.

"We need to ensure that our operations overseas are completely insulated from outside hostility."

"Julian Cross’s former associates in London are still monitoring our moves,"

she cautioned softly.

"Let them watch,"

I said,

May you like

taking a sip of warm tea.

"They will only witness their own defeat."
