Chapter 4 - The St. Regis Ambush

The Grand Ballroom of the St. Regis Hotel was bathed in amber chandelier light.

Over three hundred elite figures from logistics, banking, and politics were sipping vintage champagne.

At the center of the raised podium stood Julian Sterling.

He looked immaculate in a custom Tom Ford tuxedo, his silver-flecked hair combed back perfectly.

Beside him stood Victoria Thorne, radiating arrogance in a backless gold sequin gown.

She held a flute of Dom Pérignon, laughing at a joke made by the Chairman of the Port Authority.

Julian raised his glass to begin his keynote address.

"Twelve years ago, this company was nothing more than an ambitious dream and twenty trucks," Julian projected into the microphone.

The room quieted in respectful admiration.

"Today, with the pending partnership of the Temasek Logistics Group, we become an international titan."

"Leadership is not merely about managing assets; it is about absolute control and unwavering discipline."

The heavy double doors at the back of the ballroom swung open with a resounding thud.

The noise cut directly through Julian's rehearsed baritone.

He stopped mid-sentence, his brow furrowing with mild annoyance as heads began turning toward the foyer.

I walked through the threshold alone.

The floor-length black velvet gown swept across the crimson carpet with rhythmic grace.

My head, shaved completely bald and gleaming under the crystal chandeliers, stunned the room into dead silence.

The diamond earrings swung with cold brilliance against my bare neck.

Every eye in the room locked onto me.

A collective gasp rippled through the gathering of high-society elites and corporate executives.

Julian’s knuckles turned white around his champagne flute.

His face drained of color until he resembled a corpse in expensive tailoring.

Victoria’s hand trembled; her champagne spilled over the rim, splashing onto her gold dress.

I did not look at the guests.

I did not look at the photographers whose flashes suddenly erupted in frantic bursts.

I walked straight down the center aisle, directly toward the elevated stage.

The rhythm of my heels was the only sound in the entire grand hall.

Julian stepped forward to the edge of the stage, his voice dropping into a frantic, furious whisper through the live microphone.

"Sarah... what the hell have you done to yourself?"

"Get out of here!"

I reached the base of the stairs and stopped, looking up at him with icy tranquility.

"Good evening, Julian."

"I believe my five minutes expired approximately three hours ago."

Victoria stepped behind Julian, her eyes wide with mounting panic.

She had expected me to be weeping in a dark bedroom, clutching a blanket over my ruined hair.

She had never imagined that I would walk into the lion’s den wearing her assault as a crown.

"You're insane," Victoria hissed under her breath.

"Security!" Julian barked into the microphone, his polished veneer shattering into sheer terror.

"Escort this woman out of the ballroom immediately!"

Two security guards moved forward, but before they could cross the floor, Eleanor Hayes appeared beside me.

She held a thick leather portfolio bearing the official seal of the New York State Supreme Court.

Beside her stood Marcus Vance, flashing his gold gold detective shield to the hotel security guards.

"Stand down," Marcus ordered with absolute legal authority.

"Police business."

Eleanor stepped up to the second step of the stage and unlatched her portfolio.

"Julian Sterling, as of four o’clock this afternoon, an emergency injunction was issued by Judge Katherine Miller."

"Sarah Vance Sterling, holder of forty-two percent of voting shares through the Vance Trust, has exercised statutory audit powers."

"And Victoria Thorne..."

Marcus stepped past Julian, his hand dropping to the heavy handcuffs on his leather utility belt.

Victoria froze, her champagne glass slipping from her fingers and shattering violently on the hardwood stage.

"Victoria Thorne, you are under arrest for felony assault with a deadly weapon, burglary, and conspiracy."

May you like

The entire ballroom erupted into chaotic whispers, camera shutters, and frantic gasps.

The illusion of Julian Sterling’s untouchable kingdom began to crack right before the eyes of his investors.
