Chapter 16 - The Daughter’s Betrayal

Victoria stared at the Interpol red notice, her manicured fingers trembling as she picked up the official dossier.

The document bore her alias, her photograph, and a falsified warning indicating that she was armed, dangerous, and suspected of violent international espionage.

"No," she whispered, her voice dropping into a hollow, childish whimper.

"He told me I was his true heir... he told me everything he took from your father would belong to me."

"Marcus doesn't have an heir, Victoria," I said, stepping closer, my eyes locking onto hers with unwavering intensity.

"He only has instruments."

"He used your mother to extort my father twenty-five years ago, and when she outlived her usefulness, he left her penniless in an East London council flat."

"Did he tell you that, or did he tell you that my father threw her out?"

Victoria dropped the papers onto the bed, her face contorting into a mask of sudden, devastating grief.

The lies she had built her entire life upon—the venom that had driven her to cut my hair, seduce my husband, and try to strip me of my soul—were turning to ash before her eyes.

"He told me your father watched my mother starve," she choked out, tears finally breaking through her cold exterior.

"He told me you had everything that was stolen from me!"

"My father sent your mother five thousand pounds every month until the day she died," Arthur interjected, stepping into the room and placing a stack of historic wire confirmations on the table.

"Marcus intercepted every single payment through an offshore shell company in Jersey."

"He starved your mother himself, Victoria, precisely so you would grow up with enough hatred to become his weapon."

Victoria slumped onto the bed, burying her face in her hands, her shoulders shaking with violent, racking sobs.

The monster who had stood over me in my bedroom with steel shears was reduced to a broken child who had been manipulated into destroying her own soul.

I felt no sympathy for her—she had made her choices, and the scars she had inflicted upon my life would never fully fade.

But I felt a profound, calculating clarity.

"You have one chance to survive tonight, Victoria," I said, my voice cold and commanding.

Victoria looked up through her tear-stained lashes, her pride completely dismantled.

"What do you want?" she whispered.

"The encryption key to Marcus’s private accounts," I demanded.

"The drive sewn into the lining of your designer luggage."

"Give it to me, and I will have Arthur escort you back to federal custody under the direct protection of the United States Attorney General."

"Refuse, and you can walk out that door into the woods, where Marcus’s clean-up crew is already waiting for you."

Victoria swallowed hard, her chest heaving as she reached into the corner of her duffel bag, pulling out a small, metallic flash drive embedded with biometric locks.

She held it out to me with trembling hands.

"The password is the date my mother died," she whispered.

"He made me memorize it so I would never forget my revenge."

"Now it's going to be the date he dies," I replied, taking the drive into my palm.
