Chapter 18 - The Siege of Mayfair

At four in the morning, London time, while the city slept under a blanket of dense autumn fog, our legal strikes fell upon Marcus Vance’s European operations like precision artillery.

Armed with the biometric records decrypted from Victoria’s flash drive, our barristers entered the High Court of Justice on an emergency ex parte injunction.

The Bank of England cleared the four-hundred-and-twenty-million-dollar redemption wire at precisely four-thirty a.m.

Marcus’s sovereign debt bond—the weapon he had spent ten years constructing to steal Vance Enterprises—was completely dissolved in a single keystroke.

Simultaneously, the City of London Police’s Economic Crime Directorate, coordinated with the FBI, launched raids on six luxury addresses across Mayfair and Kensington.

I watched the live operational feeds on the main monitors in our New York war room, sipping black coffee, feeling the cold weight of absolute determination settled in my chest.

On screen, tactical units surrounded a private Georgian townhouse on Grosvenor Square—Marcus Vance’s primary European fortress.

The iron gates were breached with hydraulic rams, and armed officers poured into the courtyard under the glare of high-powered spotlights.

For a moment, I allowed myself to believe it was over.

I believed that justice, delayed by decades of corruption and cruelty, had finally arrived.

Then, the lead tactical camera shook violently as an explosion ripped through the upper floor of the townhouse.

Smoke billowed from the shattered windows, turning the feed into static and chaos.

"Report!" Arthur shouted into the tactical comms link. "What just happened in London?"

A breathless voice came over the speaker from the lead inspector on the ground.

"The target had a dead-man protocol on his internal servers!"

"He burned the primary data vaults before our units could breach the inner study!"

"Is Marcus inside?" I demanded, leaning over the console.

There was a long, terrifying pause filled with the sound of sirens, shouting officers, and crackling flames.

"Negative, Vance Tower," the inspector answered grimly.

"The inner sanctum was empty."

"The emergency fire escape through the private tunnel into the London Underground was unlocked ten minutes before we arrived."

"Marcus Vance is mobile."

"And Mrs. Sterling—or Ms. Vance—there is an encrypted outgoing transmission that left the London terminal seconds before the detonation."

"Where was it directed?" Arthur asked, his voice shaking.

The inspector's voice dropped to a grim whisper that chilled the entire New York boardroom to the core.

"The IP address was localized to an offshore maritime vessel currently docking in New York Harbor."

Marcus Vance wasn't running away from the battle.

He was coming to New York to finish it himself.
