Chapter 7 - The Mother-in-Law’s Public Smear Campaign

By Wednesday afternoon, Margaret Collins had realized that corporate manipulation would not save her son.

Instead of backing down, she did what every cornered narcissist does when exposed.

She launched a vicious, desperate smear campaign across social media and Boston high-society circles.

Margaret posted a heavily edited video clip from the wedding on her public Facebook and Instagram accounts.

The video showed me throwing my bouquet to the floor and demanding that Daniel leave my house.

The caption painted me as an abusive, unstable career woman who had humiliated her devoted fiancé at the altar over petty disagreements.

She tagged local lifestyle bloggers, alumni networks, and community business forums.

Within twenty-four hours, the post had accumulated thousands of views and hundreds of venomous comments.

Dozens of strangers left scathing reviews on my personal professional page, calling me heartless, arrogant, and cruel.

My phone rang constantly with calls from acquaintances wanting gossip.

I sat at my kitchen island on Thursday morning, drinking black coffee while Rachel scrolled through the comments on her iPad.

"This woman is truly unhinged," Rachel muttered, shaking her head in disgust.

"She is claiming you forced Daniel to sign away his personal wealth and then kicked him onto the street with nothing."

"She thinks she can destroy my reputation to force me to drop the corporate embezzlement charges," I said calmly.

"Are you going to issue a public statement?" Rachel asked, looking at me with concern.

"No," I replied, setting my mug down on the granite counter.

"A public statement looks defensive."

"When someone attacks you with lies, you do not throw words back at them."

"You throw evidence."

I opened my laptop and connected to our legal counsel’s secure file server.

Chief Counsel Vance had spent the previous forty-eight hours gathering every piece of digital documentation regarding Margaret and Daniel.

We had the original audio recording from the ballroom sound technician, which captured Margaret’s microphone demands in crystal-clear fidelity.

We had the forged power of attorney document with Marcus Vance’s fraudulent notary seal.

And we had the certified bank records showing Margaret spending the embezzled Vantage Logistics funds on luxury cruise tickets and country club dues.

"I am sending these files to Attorney Vance for a formal press release through the corporate media relations department," I told Rachel.

"Along with a formal emergency cease-and-desist order and a twenty-million-dollar defamation lawsuit naming Margaret Collins personally."

Rachel grinned, a fierce light dancing in her eyes.

"She thought she was playing high-school gossip games with a corporate director who handles international crisis management for a living."

"Margaret wanted the public to pay attention to our wedding," I said, clicking the send button on my screen.

"Now the entire city will watch her pay for her crimes."
