Chapter 17 - The Masterstroke on the Record

The entire ballroom froze.

Harrison's arrogant smirk twitched slightly, a hairline fracture appearing in his polished veneer.

"This is an unauthorized disruption of parliamentary procedure!" Harrison barked into the microphone.

"Sit down, Clara!"

I did not sit down.

Instead, I nodded to Rachel at the audiovisual control booth at the rear of the hall.

The colossal projector screens behind the podium flared to life, illuminating the room with high-definition digital scans of bank statements, customs manifests, and encrypted wire transfers.

"What you are looking at on the screen," I announced with unwavering precision, "is the complete forensic financial trail of Helios Meridian Trust."

"For thirty years, Mr. Harrison Vance has operated under the alias of Henri Valmont in Geneva."

"He did not accumulate this capital through legitimate shipping investments."

"Between nineteen-ninety-two and nineteen-ninety-six, Harrison Vance and Richard Collins Senior systematically siphoned over forty million dollars from transatlantic shipping pensions."

"They laundered the stolen funds through forged bills of lading, using my grandfather’s firm without his knowledge."

A collective gasp rippled through the audience.

Reporters were frantically recording every word as the detailed banking documents cycled on the giant screens.

"Furthermore," I continued, stepping directly in front of the podium, "the capital used by Aethelgard Maritime to purchase Vantage shares this week was not foreign institutional equity."

"It was the direct proceeds of illegal insider trading orchestrated by Marcus Sterling, funded through the illicit accounts of Julian and Margaret Collins."

"In legal terms, Mr. Vance, your fifty-one percent voting bloc is not a majority."

"It is evidence in an ongoing federal racketeering and grand larceny indictment."

Harrison’s face turned an alarming shade of mottled purple.

He slammed both hands down on the podium.

"This is slander! These documents are fabricated by an incompetent executive trying to save her job!"

"They are not fabricated, Harrison," a calm, authoritative voice boomed from the double doors at the back of the ballroom.

The heavy wooden doors swung open.

Walking down the center aisle were four federal agents from the Securities and Exchange Commission, flanked by Detective Miller and two Assistant United States Attorneys.

"Harrison Vance, also known as Henri Valmont," the lead federal agent stated, his voice ringing through the cavernous hall.

"We have an active warrant for your arrest on twelve counts of securities fraud, tax evasion, and conspiracy to commit extortion."

"Julian Collins," Detective Miller added, pointing directly at Julian.

"You are under arrest for violating bail conditions and witness tampering."

May you like

Julian collapsed back into his chair, covering his face with trembling hands as the handcuffs clicked loudly around his wrists in front of every financial camera in New York.

The room descended into utter pandemonium.
