Chapter 15 - The Unraveling Syndicate

By dawn, Detective Miller’s team had recovered the pry bar, complete with latent fingerprints that matched Marcus Sterling’s federal record.
Marcus had not acted alone; his vehicle, found abandoned three blocks away, contained a burner laptop with encrypted emails.
Miller obtained an emergency warrant to access the laptop’s cloud backup.
What they uncovered inside sent shockwaves through both the police department and Vantage’s executive boardroom.
Marcus had been hired by a shell legal firm called Vance & Sterling Associates—a sham company deliberately named to confuse regulators.
The funding for this firm did not originate from Margaret Collins’s depleted trust accounts.
Margaret had merely been the front, the disposable noise machine used to draw my attention and keep me reacting emotionally.
The true architect of the hostile takeover was a man named Harrison Vance.
Harrison was my estranged uncle, my father's older brother, who had been completely disinherited by my grandfather twenty-five years earlier.
He had moved to Switzerland, changed his legal name, and built an empire of predatory shell corporations designed to dismantle his family's former holdings.
I sat across from Robert Sterling in his private study, the morning sun casting sharp geometric shadows across the wall.
"Harrison Vance," Robert murmured in disbelief, staring at the forensic summary.
"I haven't heard that name since Arthur read the will in nineteen-ninety-nine."
"He blame me for his exile, Robert," I said, my voice hollow yet resolved.
"My grandfather left the entirety of his estate, the brownstone, and the maritime shares to me because Harrison was selling corporate secrets to rival cartels."
"Harrison partnered with Richard Collins Senior back in the nineties to loot the company."
"When Richard died, Harrison fled."
"Now, he is using Margaret's bitterness and Julian's stupidity as a smokescreen to seize Vantage and tear my grandfather's legacy down to the studs."
Robert clenched his fists, his knuckles turning white.
"He used my own nephew to do his dirty work."
"Marcus was always weak, easily bought with promises of easy money."
"Clara, Aethelgard has officially filed their Schedule 13D with the SEC."
"They now own fourteen point nine percent of Vantage."
"They have called for an extraordinary shareholder meeting this coming Friday."
"Their agenda: to remove me as Chairman and terminate your contract as Senior Vice President of Global Operations."
I stood up and walked to the window, watching the cargo ships glide majestically across the distant harbor.
"They think they have cornered us, Robert," I said softly.
"They think we are going to play defense, apologize to the shareholders, and beg for institutional votes."
"What are you thinking, Clara?" Robert asked, watching me with keen intensity.
"I'm thinking it's time to invite Harrison Vance to step out of the shadows."
"We aren't going to fight him in a boardroom."
May you like
"We are going to let him show up to that shareholder meeting, thinking he has won."
"And then we are going to dismantle him in front of the entire international press."
