Chapter 17 - Unmasking the Traitor

The morning conference room at Vance Enterprises was chilled by the aggressive air conditioning.

The ten members of the executive board sat around the glass table in somber silence.

Marcus Sterling, the smooth-talking Chief Financial Officer, sat at the head of the opposing side, wearing a crisp bespoke suit and an air of righteous indignation.

He had already laid out printed copies of the board's proposed resolution to strip Luca of executive powers.

"Luca, this isn't personal," Marcus began, his voice dripping with faux sympathy.

"Our share price has dropped eighteen percent in two days."

"Institutional investors are pulling out of the Clark County bond syndicate."

"For the safety of the shareholders, you must take a temporary leave of absence."

"Claire’s legal battles with the Bennett trust are a distraction we simply cannot afford."

Luca sat quietly, tapping a gold Montblanc pen against the polished glass.

He did not look defensive; he looked amused.

"A compelling speech, Marcus," Luca said smoothly.

"You've always had a gift for rhetoric."

"Claire, would you care to present the internal audit findings?"

I stood up, holding a sleek black tablet connected to the room's main projection monitors.

I tapped the screen once.

The monitors flickered, displaying a complex web of encrypted bank routing numbers originating from Zurich and terminating in a private shell company registered in Panama: Sterling Capital Ltd.

Marcus’s smug expression froze.

"Over the past twenty-four hours, our forensic investigators decrypted the files retrieved from Eleanor Bennett’s private ledger," I announced, pacing slowly behind the seated board members.

"It turns out Eleanor was running a contingency fund designed to compromise key executives in competing firms."

"Three months ago, five million dollars was transferred from a Bennett subsidiary to an account in the Cayman Islands registered under your mother’s maiden name, Marcus."

"In exchange, you provided Eleanor’s legal team with Luca’s proprietary cryptographic security tokens."

"You generated the fake Macau transfer logs that were leaked to the financial press."

Marcus’s face transformed from composure to panic.

He shoved his chair back, standing up abruptly.

"This is fabricated! It’s a desperate attempt to deflect from Luca’s criminal negligence!"

"Then perhaps you can explain this," Luca interrupted, his voice dropping like an anvil.

Gabriel stepped into the conference room, accompanied by two uniformed detectives from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s financial crimes division.

"The detectives have a warrant for your personal residence, Marcus," Luca stated coldly.

"And the FBI has already seized the server in your Henderson townhouse where the forged documents were created."

Marcus looked around the table at his fellow board members.

Every single one of them looked away, disgusted by his betrayal.

The detectives moved forward, clicking steel handcuffs around Marcus’s wrists.

As they dragged him toward the door, Marcus turned back, his composure completely shattered.

"You think you won, Luca?!" Marcus screamed, his voice bouncing off the glass walls.

"Eleanor already knows you have the files!"

"She’s not going to court anymore!"

May you like

"She’s going to burn it all down!"

"Do you hear me?! She’s going to burn it all to the ground!"
