Chapter 4 - Notice of Eviction

By mid-afternoon,
the sky above the luxury suburban estate had turned gray once again.
Evelyn had returned home from her disastrous shopping trip,
fuming with anger,
sitting on the velvet sofa in the grand living room.
She was sipping chamomile tea,
waiting for Daniel to call her back with news that the money was restored.
Suddenly,
the sound of heavy vehicles echoing on the gravel driveway shattered the quiet atmosphere.
Evelyn looked out the grand bay window and gasped.
Three black SUVs and two police cruisers had pulled up right outside the front entrance.
The heavy front doors unlocked,
and Arthur Vance walked inside,
accompanied by four uniformed law enforcement officers and two legal assistants.
Evelyn jumped up from the sofa,
her teacup shattering on the Italian marble floor.
"What is the meaning of this intrusion?"
she screamed,
pointing a finger at the officers.
"This is private property!"
"I will have my son arrest all of you!"
Arthur Vance pulled a pair of rimless glasses from his pocket and put them on,
unfolding a thick stack of certified legal deeds.
"Mrs. Evelyn Vance,"
Arthur spoke in a clear,
authoritative voice that echoed off the high ceilings.
"I am Arthur Vance,
managing partner of Vance & Associates,
representing the true legal owner of this property."
"You are currently trespassing on land owned exclusively by Vanguard Residential Real Estate Trust."
"We are here to execute an emergency order of eviction."
"Eviction?"
Evelyn shrieked,
staggering backward in complete shock.
"This is my son’s house!"
"He bought this mansion five years ago!"
"He lets me live here!"
At that exact moment,
the tires of a sports car screeched outside.
Daniel rushed through the front door,
his tie crooked,
sweat dripping down his forehead.
"What the hell is going on here?"
Daniel shouted,
stepping between Arthur Vance and his mother.
"Get out of my house!"
"I am calling my lawyer!"
Arthur Vance calmly pulled a copy of the original land deed and holding contract from his briefcase.
He turned to the second page,
pointing directly at the bottom signature.
"Mr. Vance,"
Arthur said dryly,
"you were allowed to live here under a revocable permissive occupancy agreement."
"You never paid a single dollar toward the principal mortgage of this thirty-million-dollar estate."
"The mortgage,
the taxes,
the insurance,
and the land acquisition were paid in full by the founder of Vanguard."
Daniel’s face drained of all color.
"Who?"
Daniel whispered,
his voice suddenly trembling as reality began to claw at his chest.
"Who owns it?"
Arthur Vance leaned in slightly,
looking straight into Daniel’s frantic eyes.
"The sole board member and owner of Vanguard Holdings,"
Arthur said softly,
"is Miss Emily Carter."
"Your wife."
Evelyn gasped,
clutching her chest as if she couldn't breathe.
"That...
that worthless girl?"
"She doesn't have a dime!"
"She came from nothing!"
"You are lying!"
"You have one hour to pack your personal clothing,
Mrs. Vance,"
Arthur commanded coldly,
ignoring her shrieks.
"All luxury items,
jewelry,
art pieces,
and vehicles purchased using Vanguard funds remain on the premises."
May you like
"If you attempt to remove them,"
"you will be arrested for felony grand theft immediately."
