Chapter 18 - SUNDAY MORNING PEACE

Sunday mornings in Beacon Hill were sacred.

The streets were quiet,

bathed in the soft morning mist rolling in from the harbor.

Inside the grand Caldwell estate,

the kitchen was filled with the sound of laughter and sizzling bacon.

Maisie was busy mixing pancake batter with far too much enthusiasm,

sending flour flying across the pristine marble island.

Nathaniel stood behind her,

his large hands guiding her small ones to keep the mess contained,

a rare,

relaxed smile on his face.

Emma sat at the table with a steaming mug of coffee,

watching them with a heart full of profound gratitude.

“You know,

” Emma said lightly,

“if anyone told me three years ago I’d be married to a reformed mafia boss living in Beacon Hill,

I would have laughed in their face.

”

Nathaniel chuckled,

walking over to press a tender kiss to Emma’s cheek.

“Life has a funny way of surprising you when you least expect it,

” Nathaniel murmured.

“All it took was a little girl with too much courage and a spare chair.

”

Maisie held up a spatula covered in batter triumphantly.

“I am the best matchmaker in Boston!” Maisie announced proudly.

“The absolute best,

” Nathaniel agreed,

lifting her up into the air as Maisie shrieked with delighted laughter.

Emma watched her husband and daughter,

realizing that true wealth wasn't measured in money,

power,

or hidden ledgers.

It was measured in moments like this—warm,

May you like

safe,

and filled with unconditional love.
