Chapter 55

The sun was just rising, casting a bright, cinematic brilliance over the Falcone estate as Domenico returned. The natural light poured through the skylights, entirely devoid of any dull yellow tint, illuminating the pristine marble floors. He walked into the grand atrium, shedding his heavy overcoat. Evelyn was already awake, standing near the sweeping staircase. She wore an elegant, understated morning gown, her fair, rosy complexion glowing perfectly. She possessed a fierce, unwavering strength that perfectly matched his own. "The western routes?" Evelyn asked, her voice steady and calm. "Secured," Domenico replied, his deep, raspy voice softening as he looked at her. He closed the distance between them, his heavily tattooed hands resting gently on her waist. "They will not test our borders again." Evelyn reached up, her delicate fingers brushing a stray lock of dark, wavy hair from his forehead. "You are covered in gunpowder, Domenico," she noted softly, though there was no fear in her eyes. "I will always do whatever is necessary to protect our peace," he whispered, leaning down to kiss her. She was not a fragile liability; she was the undisputed queen of the underworld, standing fearlessly beside the apex predator.
