Chapter 10 - A New Morning on the Estate

The morning sun rose over the Connecticut hills,
casting golden light across the manicured lawns and towering pine trees of the Whitaker estate.
Unlike previous mornings,
there were no donors on the terrace,
no flashing cameras,
and no artificial tension poisoning the air.
The silence outside was peaceful,
broken only by the chirping of robins and the gentle rustle of the morning breeze through the garden roses.
I stood on the balcony outside my bedroom,
holding a steaming cup of black coffee while watching the estate grounds.
Below,
Grace Miller was already supervising the new household staff,
ensuring the west wing was thoroughly sanitized and restored to its original warmth.
The corrupt maids and butlers had been escorted off the property before dawn,
replaced by vetted professionals loyal to Grace and the family.
A soft patter of tiny footsteps approached my bedroom door.
Before I could turn around,
the door swung open,
and two small figures charged across the rug.
“Daddy!
” Sophie cheered,
launching herself into my arms with a bright,
uninhibited smile that reached all the way to her eyes.
Caleb followed right behind her,
clutching his patched-up brown rabbit in one hand while tugging at my trouser leg with the other.
“Daddy,
can we go to the garden today?
” Sophie asked excitedly,
looking up at me with absolute adoration.
“Can we feed the fish in the koi pond?
” “We can do anything you want,
sweetheart,
” I answered,
kneeling down to hug them both tightly,
feeling the lingering weight of the past eleven days melt away in their embrace.
“No schedules,
no charity brunches,
no pretending.
Just us.
” Grace appeared in the doorway,
holding a tray with fresh pancakes and fruit for the children's breakfast.
She smiled warmly at the sight of us.
“Good morning,
Mr.
Whitaker.
Breakfast is ready on the terrace whenever you and the kids are downstairs.
” “Thank you,
Grace,
” I said,
looking at the woman who had saved my family from the inside out.
“Let’s go eat,
kids.
Your new life starts today.
” As we walked down the grand staircase together,
hand in hand,
I knew the shadows of the past had finally been swept away,
leaving behind an unbreakable fortress of love,
May you like
loyalty,
and protection.
