Chapter 10 - The Boardroom Ambush

The towering,
imposing glass skyscraper that housed Daniel's elite consulting firm stood in the exact center of the downtown financial district,
a massive,
expensive monument to his fragile ego and his desperate need for constant validation.
He had always strictly forbidden me from visiting the office,
claiming my presence was a distraction,
telling me that corporate business was far too complex for my simple mind to understand.
But today,
I walked through the revolving glass doors not as a subservient,
timid wife dropping off a packed lunch,
but as the silent,
majority shareholder who had secretly funded the entire fraudulent operation from day one.
I bypassed the security desk,
flashing my newly minted executive keycard,
stepping into the private elevator that shot me directly up to the top floor boardroom where Daniel's loyal executives were currently having a massive panic attack.
The doors slid open,
revealing a room full of arrogant,
overpaid men in expensive suits,
all screaming at each other,
trying to figure out how to stop the company from collapsing now that the CEO was sitting in jail.
"Excuse me,"
I announced,
my voice cutting through the chaotic shouting like a razor blade,
causing every single head in the room to snap in my direction.
"Who let you up here,"
demanded Greg,
Daniel's second-in-command and his most loyal crony,
marching toward me with a deep scowl on his face.
"This is a restricted floor,
Evelyn,
you need to leave immediately before I call security and have you physically thrown out."
I did not blink,
I did not step back,
I simply reached into my designer bag and pulled out the legal corporate documents prepared by Richard Sterling.
"I highly doubt security will throw out the owner of the company,
Greg,"
I said smoothly,
dropping the heavy stack of documents directly onto the center of the massive glass conference table.
"As the primary financial backer of this firm,
holding a seventy-five percent controlling interest based on the initial un-repaid loans Daniel secured using my inheritance,
I am officially taking control of this boardroom."
The color drained from Greg's face,
his jaw dropping as he quickly flipped through the iron-clad legal paperwork,
realizing that the quiet wife they had all mocked at company holiday parties was actually their absolute boss.
"Effective immediately,"
I continued,
pacing slowly around the table,
making intense,
uncomfortable eye contact with every single man who had helped Daniel hide his money and his mistresses.
"Greg,
you are fired for facilitating corporate fraud,
and the rest of you have exactly ten minutes to pack up your desks before forensic accountants arrive to rip apart every single file in this building."
They stood frozen in absolute terror,
their lucrative,
May you like
corrupt careers vanishing before their very eyes,
as the empire Daniel had built on my suffering crashed down into a spectacular,
