Chapter 7 - The Ironclad Judgment

On the projection screen, Eleanor leaned slightly forward toward the camera, her expression turning as cold as carved marble.

"For the past three years, Julian, I watched you siphon funds from the family trust," Eleanor’s recorded voice continued, each word delivered with devastating precision.

"I watched you forge my name on wire authorizations totaling four million, two hundred and eighty thousand dollars."

Julian gasped, his eyes darting wildly toward Chloe, who was now clutching her designer handbag as if it were a life raft.

"I know about the penthouse in Bellevue," Eleanor stated coldly.

"I know about the offshore accounts in Grand Cayman."

"And I know about Miss Chloe Bennett, whom you showered with my money while refusing to pay for my specialized in-home physical therapy."

"Julian, you thought I was a senile, dying old woman who could be easily outmaneuvered by a sociopathic son."

"You forgot that I built Vance Capital with your father before you were even born."

"I know every loophole, every corporate law, and every trick in the financial registry."

Eleanor paused, taking a slow sip of water from a glass on the screen.

"You abandoned me to die alone so you could frolic on the beaches of Maui with a woman who values you only for the money you stole from me."

"Therefore, by the power vested in me as the sole creator and controller of the Vance Family Trust, I declare my final distribution."

Eleanor picked up a pen on the video and pointed it directly at the lens.

"To my son, Julian Vance, whose greed has eclipsed his humanity, I leave exactly one United States dollar."

"One dollar, Julian."

"May it buy you a newspaper so you can read about the life you threw away."

"No!" Julian screamed, jumping out of his chair, knocking his leather seat backward onto the carpet.

"No! This is illegal! This is a complete sham!"

The video did not stop.

Eleanor’s gaze shifted warmly toward the left side of the lens, where Arthur had been standing during the recording.

"And to Nora Vance, the devoted, selfless woman who stood by me through every stroke, every hospital visit, and every sleepless night..."

"To Nora, who endured my son’s emotional neglect and lies for eighteen years without complaint..."

"I leave the Mercer Island estate, the primary Vance investment portfolio, the commercial real estate assets, and the controlling fifty-one percent voting share of Vance Capital."

"Everything is yours, Nora."

"You are the true daughter of my heart."

"Do with the Vance legacy what my son was too corrupt to achieve: bring honor to it."

The screen faded to black.

The silence in the boardroom was so absolute you could hear the rain lashing violently against the double-paned glass windows.

Julian stood frozen in the center of the room, his eyes bulging, his chest heaving as if he had run a marathon.

"Arthur..." Julian croaked, his voice cracking into high-pitched hysteria.

"Arthur, you drew this up."

"Tell me this is a sick joke."

"I am her flesh and blood! I am the Vance heir!"

"You cannot disinherit an only son under Washington law, I will tie this up in probate for the next twenty years!"

Arthur Campbell stood up, picking up a heavy stack of blue-backed legal documents, and dropped them onto the mahogany table with a resounding thud.

"You cannot contest this will, Julian," Arthur said with absolute finality.

"Because your mother signed an ironclad *in terrorem* no-contest clause."

"Furthermore, we are not filing this through standard probate."

"Six months ago, Eleanor transferred every single family asset into an irrevocable living trust, completely outside the reach of probate court."

"Nora is the sole surviving trustee."

"You have no standing."

"You have no authority."

"And as of ten minutes ago, you have no company."

Julian turned on me, his face contorted into a mask of pure, unadulterated venom.

"You did this!" he roared, pointing a shaking finger directly into my face.

"You manipulated a dying, senile woman into signing over my birthright!"

"You gold-digging, manipulative parasite!"

"I built that company! I earned that wealth!"

"You gave her nothing!"

Before Julian could take another step toward me, the heavy double doors of the boardroom swung open once again.

Two men in sharply tailored dark suits and gold badges pinned to their lapels walked into the room, accompanied by two uniformed Seattle Police officers.

Julian froze mid-step, his arm still raised, looking between the badges and the officers in absolute bewilderment.

"Julian Vance?" the lead investigator asked in a firm, flat voice.
