Chapter 10 - A Daughter’s Wish

The afternoon sun cast a warm, golden glow across the private rooftop garden of the luxury hotel.

Far above the noisy bustle of the city streets, the rooftop was a tranquil oasis of lush green hedges, blooming white roses, and trickling stone fountains. A small white table had been set up under a shaded pergola, laden with plates of fresh fruit, artisan pastries, and a towering plate of warm chocolate-chip pancakes smothered in maple syrup.

Lily sat happily in a cushioned wicker chair, swinging her legs back and forth as she eagerly devoured a strawberry-topped pancake with a plastic fork.

Ethan sat across from her, a gentle, relaxed smile on his face. He wore a simple linen shirt with the sleeves rolled up, looking less like a ruthless corporate titan and more like a proud, loving father.

"Are you having fun, princess?" Ethan asked, resting his chin on his hand.

Lily nodded enthusiastically, her mouth half-full of pancake. "This is the best day ever, Daddy! Can we stay in this castle forever?"

Ethan chuckled warmly. "Well, we can stay as long as you like. But remember, a castle is only as good as the people inside it. What matters isn't how big the rooms are, but who you share them with."

"I'm sharing it with you!" Lily beamed, holding up her sticky fork. "And you're the best daddy in the whole wide world."

Just then, soft footsteps approached along the stone pathway. Ethan looked up to see Mr. Harrison walking toward them, holding a small, elegantly wrapped gift box tied with a satin silver ribbon.

"Excuse the interruption, Mr. Carter, Miss Lily," Harrison said with a polite bow, stopping a few feet away from the table. "Federal agents have concluded their sweep of the lower levels. Mr. Vance and his associates have been transferred to federal holding facilities. The board of directors has convened an emergency vote, ratifying your complete restructuring plan without a single dissenting voice."

Ethan took a sip of his black coffee, setting the porcelain cup down on the saucer. "Good. And what about the front desk operations?"

"All personnel have undergone retraining on our core hospitality values," Harrison reported, a faint smile touching his lips. "Furthermore, the executive team has unanimously voted to establish a new employee scholarship fund in Miss Lily's name—ensuring that every staff member understands that dignity, respect, and kindness are non-negotiable requirements in this company."

Ethan nodded approvingly. "An excellent initiative, Harrison. See that it is implemented immediately."

"Will do, sir." Harrison stepped forward and placed the small gift box on the edge of the table. "And... this arrived for Miss Lily a few minutes ago via special courier."

Lily’s eyes lit up like Christmas morning. She stopped eating her pancakes and stared at the silver ribbon. "For me?"

"Open it and see," Ethan encouraged gently.

Lily eagerly untied the ribbon, ripped off the silver wrapping paper, and lifted the lid of the box. Inside rested a magnificent, handcrafted snow globe made of crystal and polished wood. Inside the glass sphere was a miniature replica of the hotel, and when Lily gently shook it, sparkling golden glitter swirled around like magical falling snow.

Attached to the base was a small silver plaque engraved with the words: To Princess Lily—Welcome Home.

Lily gasped, picking up the snow globe with both hands and staring into the swirling glitter with pure, unadulterated awe. "It's magical, Daddy! It's our hotel!"

Ethan looked at his daughter's radiant smile, feeling a profound wave of peace wash over his weary soul. The grief of losing Clara would never truly vanish, but looking at Lily, he knew that the future was bright, secure, and full of love.

"Yes, sweetheart," Ethan whispered softly, wrapping his arm around her shoulders and pulling her close. "It's our home."

Little did they know, down in the main lobby, the hotel was already beginning a brand-new chapter of its legendary history—one where no guest would ever be judged by their clothes, and where true luxury was measured by the warmth of the human heart.
