Chapter 10 - The Ultimatums of the Damned

The heavy oak doors of the private Milwaukee clinic swung open with a resounding crash that rattled the framed medical licenses on the walls.
Vincent Moretti strode into the lobby, his broad shoulders filling the narrow space, his face a mask of cold, unbridled fury.
The receptionist jumped up from her desk in sheer panic, reaching for the silent alarm button under the counter.
Where is Dr. Hayes, and where is my wife? Vincent demanded, his deep, gravelly voice echoing off the tile floor.
Before the terrified receptionist could stammer out a reply, a side door slid open smoothly.
Dr. Elizabeth Hayes stepped out into the hallway, her expression icy and uncompromising, flanked by two armed private security guards.
Mr. Moretti, you are trespassing on private medical property, Dr. Hayes said coldly, raising her hand to stop him from advancing further.
If you take another step forward, I will have you physically removed from this premises.
Vincent’s eyes locked onto the doctor with lethal intensity.
I know my wife is here.
I know she’s under your care.
Step aside before I lose my patience and tear this building down brick by brick.
From the end of the hallway, a soft, perfectly steady voice cut through the tense silence like a sharp blade of glass.
You don't need to tear anything down, Vincent.
I’m right here.
Vincent froze instantly, his head snapping toward the sound of her voice.
Claire stepped out from the private consultation hallway, wearing a simple charcoal sweater and dark denim trousers.
Her posture was completely upright, her hazel eyes staring back at him without a single flicker of fear or hesitation.
Claire, Vincent breathed out, his massive chest heaving as he took a rapid step forward.
You have no idea what I’ve been through trying to find you.
Come home, Claire.
We can fix this.
Everything is sorted out; my mother and Sophia are out of our lives for good.
Claire did not move an inch, holding up her hand to halt his advance.
There is nothing to fix, Vincent, because you destroyed whatever was left of us the moment you chose another man's son over your own family on our anniversary.
Vincent reached into his breast pocket, his fingers trembling slightly as he pulled out a folded piece of paper.
I found the ultrasound, Claire.
I know you’re pregnant with my child.
You can’t keep my baby away from me.
Claire’s eyes flashed with a cold, unforgiving fire as she looked at the father of her unborn child.
You gave your devotion, your time, and your family heirloom to another woman's son while I sat outside an operating room waiting for my mother to survive surgery alone.
You made your choice, Vincent, and now you have to live with the consequences.
The divorce papers are filed, the restraining order is active, and the moment this baby is born, your name will never touch the birth certificate.
Vincent stared at her in absolute horror, the invincible mafia boss finally realizing that his wealth and power meant nothing against a woman who had nothing left to lose.
You wouldn't dare, Vincent whispered, his voice cracking for the first time in his life.
May you like
Try me, Claire replied softly, turning her back on him as she walked back down the secure corridor.
Goodbye, Vincent.
