Chapter 15 - The Bloodline Secret

Marcello stared at the photograph, his hand shaking as he gripped the frame.

"Isabella's mother... Victoria?" he breathed, unable to comprehend what we were seeing.

"Look at the date on the back," I whispered, turning the frame over.

Handwritten in blue ink was a single line:

*Adrian, Victoria, and our little Isabella. May 14, 1996.*

The world spun around me.

Isabella wasn't just a bitter, greedy social climber who targeted Marcello by accident.

Isabella was Adrian’s daughter.

She was our biological cousin.

"Oh god," Marcello gasped, dropping into a wooden folding chair. "All along... when she came into my life, she knew who she was."

"She didn't just target you for your wealth, Marcello," I said, cold realization dawning upon me. "She believed our side of the family stole her father's birthright. She believed everything Dad and Grandfather built belonged to her."

I began tearing through the ledger inside the crate.

Adrian’s handwriting filled the pages.

It told a horrifying story:

Grandfather had forced Adrian out not because of embezzlement, but because Adrian discovered Grandfather was running illicit shell corporations through foreign ports.

When Adrian threatened to go to the federal authorities, Celeste helped Grandfather fabricate evidence against Adrian.

Adrian fled, leaving behind his pregnant partner, Victoria.

And Victoria raised Isabella on a diet of poison, hatred, and revenge.

"Marcello, look at this," I said, pulling out a recent legal document dated just three months ago.

It was a power of attorney.

Signed by Grandfather before he died, designating a secret successor to his overseas offshore holdings if his primary estate was ever split.

The successor named was Isabella Vance.

Grandfather knew who she was before he died.

He had armed her with the resources to tear us apart from beyond the grave.
